CVB Hospitality Training
What:
Hospitality and Customer Service Training offered by the Convention and Visitors Bureau through a partnership with the Eastern Iowa Tourism Association and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Participants in this training will gain knowledge about developing effective Community Customer Service, plus learn how to create experiences which will keep travelers coming back. Light the Way Clean-up Day
The Greater Burlington Leadership class will be hosting an alleyway clean-up day on April 21 from 9 AM - 3 PM. Additional volunteers are needed to help make the day successful. Clean-up efforts will include picking up trash and removing unwanted vegetation and graffiti. Downtown Open 4 Business Competition
With Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, DPI presents the Open 4 Business competition for either a new or expanding for-profit business locating in downtown Burlington. Three chosen local applicants will pitch their business concepts to DPI, with the winner competing to be a semifinalist in June for a chance at $8,000. Five finalists will present their ideas in a statewide contest in August for an additional $20,000 in funding.

A Very Vintage Market Is Looking for Vendors
What: Save $10 off booth fee by signing up before April 30; $30 for a 20 x 18 booth, $40 beginning May 1. We are specifically looking for antique and vintage merchandise (either in its original condition or repurposed), architectural salvage, food, handmade items that fit the vintage theme. To qualify, items should either consist largely of vintage materials, or a significant amount of the components should be made by the vendor. Please note - for jewelry vendors, buying mass produced beads and stringing them is not enough. Vendors will be selected specially for the quality, style and charm of their items.

Growing in straw bales has remained popular due to the fact that it essentially solves every impediment today's home gardeners face: bad soil, weeds, a short growing season, watering problems, limited gardening space, and even physical difficulty working on ground level. Alliant Energy Warns of Scam
What:
Scammers claiming to represent Alliant Energy threaten to disconnect utility service if the customer does not immediately buy a prepaid credit card. Alliant Energy assures they do not ask cutomers to pay with prepaid cards. If you should receive a phone call hang up immediately and call the Business Resource Center at 1-866-255-4268 (press 2 twice) to verify your actual account status. Alliant Energy cautions that scammers will use a fake caller-id display to seem as if the call is coming from Alliant Energy and warns against providing your Social Security number, credit card number or bank account information to any caller.

Great River Medical Center Makes $116 Million Impact in Des Moines County
What:
A study done by the Iowa Hospital Association reported that Great River Medical Center generates 2,653 jobs that add more than $116 million to Des Moines County's economy. In addition, hospital employees by themselves spend nearly $37 million on retail sales and contribute $2.2 million in state sales tax revenue.
