YOU ARE INVITED TO A PARTY to celebrate our shared commitment to ensuring another year in the life of our church. WHEN? April 23, between the services. WHAT IS HAPPENING? Music, food, prizes, activities for children WHO IS COMING? All are welcome. To ensure parking for all we encourage 1st and 2nd services attendees to consider parking in an two offsite lots on Mason Farm Road. Please pledge if you have not yet done so.
Upcoming Events
UPCOMING PROGRAM NOTES The Guest Minister Workshop scheduled for April 8 has been canceled. This Sunday, April 9, we will welcome Rev. Holly Lux-Sullivan back to the pulpit. Rev. Holly is a Unitarian Universalist community minister who serves as a chaplain and bereavement counselor with Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell. Her sermon is entitled, "Dancing on the Margins."

Rev. Thom will return to the pulpit on Easter Sunday and will lead our multigenerational Earth Day service the following week. On both April 16 and April 23 the 9:15 service will be held at the Memorial Rock amphitheater with the 11:00 service held, as usual, in the Sanctuary. Memorial Rock is a short walk down a sandy path into the woods behind the Jones Building. Our greeters and ushers will help direct you if you've never been to Memorial Rock. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to reach your destination.
OUTDOOR CONNECTIONS April flowers bring May showers. The seasons are gemished this year, but we should be able to count on Pinxter Azaleas, Dwarf Crested Iris, Green and Gold and a scattering of mid-spring warbler migrants along New Hope Creek.  This Saturday, April 8, 10:00 at the church; 12:30 lunch at Venables. SHARE THE PLATE, THIS SUNDAY APRIL 9 Opportunities for Kids and Youth (OKAY), an IFC partner, cares about children of low-resource families in our community, especially during school breaks. OKAY advocates for more programs, shares information about affordable summer programs at churches and community organizations; provides encouragement, love, support, ideas, resources, volunteers, some funds to community programs in order to assist them to have a program or to do more, e.g. El Centro, Rogers Road Center, Food for Summer activities. MEN'S GROUP: Interested in forming a Men's Group? An organizational meeting will be held Tuesday, April 11, at 10 a.m. in the Commons. The focus of this group will be on mutual support, discussion of relevant topics, and confidential sharing. For more information, feel free to contact Jim George or Paul Mitchell.
WOMENCIRCLE TO TOUR AYR MOUNT Historic Site in Hillsborough at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 14. Picnic on the grounds afterward (bring sandwich).  Drinks and beverage provided.   Bring cash or a check for $12 made payable to Lisa Epner. Carpooling from the Community Church at 10:15 or Harris Teeter North at 10:30. If attending, let Brenda Rogers know by April 6 at Brenda.hyde2@gmail.com, including carpool plans. Note: Walk by the Eno River is an option.
THE PEOPLE'S CLIMATE MARCH will take place in Washington, D.C. on April 29. This is our opportunity to demonstrate our love and concern for the planet. The March is supported by the UUA and UUSC, the NAACP, Interfaith Power and Light, and over 500 other groups. Click here for a complete list. CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF STELLA LYONS  On Saturday, May 13 join Rev. Thom at the church at 1:00 for a time of sharing remembrances of Stella Lyons.

REQUEST FOR HELPERS  A family in our church community facing medical challenges is requesting assistance, primarily with transportation for children and help with meals. The family lives close to the Maple View Ice Cream store. You can sign up to help through the LotsaHelpingHands website, or contact the Caring Ministry for more information.

GREENING THE CHURCH (Each week in April, ECO will post ways our church has become "greener.") As of April 1, the solar panels installed on our roof in 2014 have produced 53 MWh (megawatt hours) of clean, renewable energy. For comparison, a typical U.S. family home uses around 10 MWh of electricity a year.

BROTHER SUN IN CONCERT Sunday April 23 at 7pm at ERUUF. Our Standing on the Side of Love Team and the Justice Ministry of the Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (ERUUF) are collaborating on the concert which  highlights local efforts to offer sanctuary to Muslims, Latinx and immigrants.   Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.  For more information on the concert  visit the SOSL table during coffee time or  c3huu.org

AMERICANS UNITED FUNDRAISER Americans United is a non-profit that fights for religious freedom everyday - in our courts, in our schools, and with our lawmakers. Right now, they are litigating the 2nd Muslim Ban. Please help support their work by attending a FUNdraiser on April 13 in Hillsborough at the Hot Tin Roof at 6:30 pm featuring singer, satirist Roy Zimmerman. There will be fun for all ages! AUCTION TO RAISE FUNDS FOR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION IN SAN RAMÓN NICARAGUA Sister Communities of San Ramón, initiated by Eno River UU Fellowship, announces a goal to raise $30,000 toward expanding education so children can continue beyond fifth grade. There are over 70 rural schools in San Ramón, but only two high schools.  Participate online by April 15. Community Church is committed to support two elementary schools there. ART IN THE SANCTUARY "My Grace is Sufficient" photographs by Lori Vrba from March 5 through April 30. Vrba's imagery is rooted in themes of memory, illusion, loss and revival. She is a self-taught artist committed to film and the traditional wet darkroom.
