BALTIMORE: UPCOMING EVENTS

Baltimore Footlights, April 20

Join us at the Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre for a reading of Around the Snake Turn by Guild member Patricia Connelly.

After Baaba's son is accused of a crime, a curse is placed on her family by the local priest in their West African village. Baaba pits herself against family, custom, and tradition in order to prevent her young daughter from being sacrificed as a sex slave in atonement to the gods.

The event is free and open to both Dramatists Guild members and non-members. Free street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood; please plan to arrive early to ensure that you find parking. A talk-back with the playwright will follow the reading.

Also, please note on your calendar this upcoming Baltimore Footlights reading:

Meet & Greet with Baltimore Playwright

Let's gather to support DG member and local playwright Rosemary Frisino Toohey, whose play The A Word will be produced by Baltimore's Strand Theater Company from May 17 - 21. All performances are at 8pm, except for Sunday, which is at 2pm.

Brent would like to organize a group to see the performance and get dinner together nearby in Hamilton.

The A Word looks at the pressures exerted by love, family, career, religion and society on four young women. A high school senior in a single parent household, the wife of a wealthy businessman in India, a young black woman struggling to make her name in an all-white office, and a happily-married mom who's told her unborn baby has big problems - four women, four takes on a controversial subject.

If you are interested in attending, please email Brent Englar. Once responses are collected, a follow up will be sent out to determine a specific performance and restaurant.
