Announcing New President and
Welcome to New Board Members

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Scott Kaatz will assume the role of AC Forum president later this month.  He will take the reins from Dr.  Mark Crowther , who has led the board for the past four years. We are indebted to Mark for his  leadership and dedication as president and glad that he will remain on the board as an  ex officio  member. We will be in excellent leadership hands with Scott, who  has a history of involvement in the AC Forum dating back to the first national conference in 1991.

In addition, AC Forum is thrilled to welcome 4 new board members who will officially join our team at our national conference. We welcome:

Steve Deitelzweig, MD, Ochsner Health Systems, New Orleans, LA
Stacy Ellsworth, RN, Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI
Charles Pollack, MD, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA
Sara Vazquez, PharmD, University of Utah Health Care Thrombosis Center, Salt Lake City, UT

With experience in hospital systems management, emergency medicine, anticoagulation research and clinical management, the new board members will strengthen the depth and breadth of the board.

As these changes happen, two members will transition off the board. We thank Dan Witt, PharmD, and Terri Schnurr, RN, for their valuable work for the AC Forum. We appreciate the expertise and hard work they have given to AC Forum, and are thrilled that they will stay connected to the AC Forum as members of our Advisory Council.

14th National Conference Countdown: 14 days

Participants Wanted for Clinic Interviews At Conference
$50 gift cards given to participants

Conference attendees who work in AC clinics are asked to participate in a survey for research conducted by the  Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program (MCORRP) at the University of Michigan. The research will help MCORRP understand how  anticoagulation clinics/services are structured and function. Four $50 gift cards will be raffled off to survey respondents. In addition, MCORRP is looking to do brief follow-up interviews with respondents at the LA conference. All respondents who participate in an interview will receive a $50 gift card as a thank you.

This 10-15 minute  survey is sponsored by Pfizer and endorsed by the Anticoagulation Forum. Questions can be directed to Dr. Geoffrey Barnes at  [email protected] .

Access the survey  here.

Just Announced!
Anticoagulation Boot Camp
Chicago, October 12-13

AC Forum's 7th regional boot camp will be held this fall in Chicago, IL.  This compact 2-day meeting provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers the essential aspects of anticoagulation, disease state, and drug management. An engaging discussion around quality improvement, new agents and special situations will benefit all practitioners, and daily "chalk talks" will allow for attendee participation to shape the topics. The boot camp model will have a limited enrollment in order to provide ample time for Q&A and personal interaction with our expert faculty.

Registration will be available soon at acforumbootcamp.org.

THSNA Travel-To-A-Mentor Awards

THSNA is offering financial awards for students to spend a week training with a research mentor anywhere in the US, Canada or Mexico. The awards, up to $2500 per mentee, will fall into the categories of nursing; laboratory technologist; pharmacist; PhD researcher; physician investigator, clinic, translational or basic; or patient advocate. The structure of the one-week experience will be determined jointly by the mentee and mentor, but is expected to include clinical and/or laboratory experiences (where applicable); attendance at relevant meetings and conferences; and meetings with the mentor to discuss potential future collaborations.

Applicants must be a member of one of THSNA's 16 partner organizations, be within 7 years of completing all formal training, and be committed to the field of hemostasis or thrombosis.
