Max Dine MD, FACP, 76, of Glendale, AZ was born in Cambridge, MA to Sylvia and Felix Dine. Max graduated from Lawrence Academy, Tufts University and Tufts Medical School where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. He had a successful Oncology practice in California before retiring to Arizona. A brilliant doctor and lobbyist for mental health, he co-founded Visions of Hope and received the Clifford Beers Award in 1998 from the National Mental Health Association (now Mental Health America), the Ken Steele Award in 2000 from the National Alliance on Mental Illness for improving the lives of those living with mental illness and the Business Journal's Health Care Heroes Award in 2002.
Tireless in his advocacy efforts, Dr. Dine engaged in a seven-year battle to ensure that this state's Civil Rights Act included protection for those with mental illness. His tremendous commitment to this worthwhile cause won him the Hon Kachina award in 2005, and his quiet approach and dedication earned him the well-deserved respect and admiration of all who had the privilege to work with him.
Max improved the lives of many by raising awareness and helping to eradicate stigma for those suffering from mental illness by lobbying the State Legislature and passing the "2 little words" bill. The "2 little words" were "and mental" which were added to Arizona's ADA law prohibiting discrimination in employment.
Arizona's House of Representatives paid tribute to Dr. Dine, February 9, 2017 for his legacy of advocating for mental health care.

New Report from ASU's School of Business Says Obamacare Repeal Will Kill Arizona Jobs
(Phoenix) - As Arizona celebrates the announcement of 3,000 new jobs as a result of Intel's latest investment, a new report indicates that repeal of the Affordable Care Act could cost Arizona over twenty times that number of jobs in just the first year. The report released today by the Seidman Research Institute at Arizona State University's W. P. Carey School of Business details the stunning amount of job loss in Arizona that will occur with repeal of the Affordable Care Act. The study, Economic Impact on Arizona Of Repeal of Funding Provisions of the Affordable Care Act, was completed in January and was commissioned by Children's Action Alliance of Arizona.

Substance Abuse Task Force Recommendations
Governor Doug Ducey, through the Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF), convened the Arizona Substance Abuse Task Force in Spring 2016. Debbie Moak, GOYFF Director, and Dr. Sara Salek, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Chief Medical Officer, co-chaired the Task Force. Twenty-nine individuals were appointed to serve as task force members, and several additional people with special expertise were invited to participate in work groups. In October, the Task Force concluded its work and submitted a formal report making 104 recommendations to Governor Ducey. The report contains recommendations for Arizona to consider regarding: prevention and early Intervention programs, access to treatment, medication-assisted treatment, and neonatal abstinence syndrome.

CMS Approves AHCCCS Targeted Investments Program
January 18, 2017- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved Arizona's request to begin a Targeted Investments Program that will make almost $300 million available over five years to Arizona providers who assist the State in promoting the integration of physical and behavioral health care, increasing efficiencies in care delivery, and improving health outcomes.
As part of this larger integration effort, the Program will have a specific project focused on assisting those AHCCCS members who have transitioned into the community from criminal justice facilities. Connecting justice-involved members to appropriate acute and behavioral health care services upon their release improves their health outcomes, helps them to reintegrate into the community, and reduces recidivism.
This Targeted Investment will support the state's ongoing efforts to integrate the delivery system for AHCCCS members
