Goodwill's 2016 Community Impact Report is Now Available Online
T
he 2016 Goodwill Industries of the Valleys Community Impact Report, which is now available online, highlights how community support enabled Goodwill to serve over 45,000 people who needed assistance getting back to work or gaining greater independence.
"In 2016, we proudly served thousands of individuals with disabilities and disadvantages," states Bruce Phipps, President & CEO in his comments in the Community Impact Report. "They came to us with the hope for a brighter future. Because of your continued support, we helped them find their path to greater independence."
The report also includes the success stories of two individuals who received services from Goodwill and outcomes of how Goodwill is working to change lives throughout our communities.

GoodCare is a healthcare training program provided by Goodwill Industries of the Valleys. Through a partnership with Community Colleges and Adult Education or Literacy programs, individuals enrolled in GoodCare will benefit from supportive services, life skills training, education, and assistance to obtain employment in the healthcare industry. People served will enter an in-demand occupation and have the opportunity to grow and advance their career through healthcare pathways. GoodCare will serve individuals who are TANF recipients, as well as other low-income individuals.
GoodCare Training Pathways include:
Health Information: Microsoft Office Specialist, Medical Administrative Assistant, Health Records Coding, Medical Administrative Management
Nursing: Personal Care/Home Health Aide, Certified Nurse Assistant, Registered Medication Aide, Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse
Healthcare Support: Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant
Open Houses are currently being offered across our service area. These sessions provide more information on the program and assists individuals in determining if it is a good fit for them and their career goals.*

*Seats are limited and individuals must meet eligibility requirements to be considered for enrollment in GoodCare. Funding for the healthcare training program is provided by a Health Professions Opportunity Grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services. HPOG is a study funded by the federal government which is being conducted to determine how these training opportunities help people improve their skills and find better jobs. During the study, all new eligible applicants will be selected by lottery to participate in these training opportunities. Not all eligible applicants will be selected to participate in these opportunities. Goodwill Hosts Job Seeker Events to Jump Start Individuals' Job Search
Goodwill has a variety of Job Seeker Events in April to help individuals in the community jump start their job search and improve their employment opportunities.
Events take place in Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, and include:

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, a United Way partner organization headquartered in Roanoke, serves 31 counties and 13 cities in the New River, Roanoke, and Shenandoah Valleys. Its mission is to help people and families in our community achieve a better life through work and independence. In 2016, Goodwill assisted over 45,000 individuals and in this difficult employment market placed over 4,000 people into jobs in our community. At the end of February 2017, Goodwill had helped 15,051 people who walked through the doors of the organization seeking assistance.
