"Facilitating Effective Criminal Investigations
Addressing Sexual Harm by Native Youth"
This two-day training by internationally recognized adolescent sex offender therapist, Joann Schladale, MS, LMFT is brought to you by the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, Inc., the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women, and Sexual Assault Services of Northwest New Mexico.
 
This course focuses on optimal investigation to promote successful standardized protocols for responding to youth who cause sexual harm with a focus on tribes and Pueblos. Law enforcement personnel working in a range of settings are challenged to facilitate clearly defined and structured investigations when faced with allegations of sexual harm by youth. Content includes: practical ways to enhance community safety; understanding vulnerabilities that can lead to sexual harm; information gathering through effective interviewing; organizing and documenting information; and practice skills. Multidisciplinary teams are encouraged to apply for this training.

Scholarship: Two days from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
  •      All registration costs and materials
  •      Two nights hotel (up to $91 per night if you live 50 miles or more from Shiprock)
  •      Mileage for one round trip (if you live 50 miles or more from Shiprock)
  •      $30 per diem for the 2 actual days of training for those from out of town

Eligibility: Up to 20 New Mexicans will be chosen for participation for each of the two locations

Meet the Trainer!
Joann Schladale has been working in the field of trauma, child abuse, and interpersonal violence since 1981.  In 1991, as faculty at the University of Louisville, she developed and coordinated the internationally acclaimed Juvenile Sexual Offender Counselor Certification Program in addition to other courses focusing on violence prevention.  She continues to teach courses on a collaborative approach for healing trauma, and stopping violence and sexual harm.

Joann has received professional awards and made hundreds of presentations throughout North America, Europe, and Africa focusing on childhood trauma, sexual harm, youth violence prevention, and positive youth development.  She has also written numerous book chapters in scholarly texts. The T.O.P. Workbook for Taming Violence and Sexual Aggression was published in 2002, and she collaborated in the creation of Community-Based Standards For Addressing Sexual Harm By Youth (2007).  Joann recently completed The T.O.P.* Workbook For Sexual Health (2010), and is co-writing Stop It! A Practical Guide For Youth Violence Prevention, scheduled for publication in early 2012.

Geared towards tribal law enforcement, criminal investigators and sexual violence responders in northwest New Mexico, this training is conveniently scheduled on May 1 and 2 at the Dine College- Shiprock north campus.
June 19-20, 2017- Isleta Pueblo, NM
Geared towards tribal law enforcement, criminal investigators and sexual violence responders in central New Mexico, this training is conveniently scheduled on May June 19-20, 2017 at the Isleta Resort & Casino Golf Center.
