Spring 2017 semester ends May 3. What parents and families should know.

Dear Parents and Families,
The end of the spring 2017 semester is fast approaching and we hope your student has had an exceptional living and learning experience with us. In this Familinks newsletter you will find useful information regarding the housing closing process for spring.

Housing and Residence Life closes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
Residents should move out 24 hours after their last final or by 6 p.m. on Wednesday,
May 3, whichever comes first. HOWEVER, if they have a final on Wednesday, May 3 that starts at 12 p.m. or after, he/she can wait to check out by 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 4. Residents must submit a Stay Late Request if they have a 12 p.m. or later final on Wednesday and want to check out on May 4.
If a resident needs to stay later than 6 p.m. on Wednesday (for any reason), he/she should fill out the Stay Late Request form and be specific with the reason to stay late. If he/she needs to stay late due to a Wednesday final, should include the class number, class name and time of final scheduled for Wednesday, May 3. To complete the Stay Late Request, residents must log into myUSI, click on the Housing icon to the left and go to the appropriate online form. The stay late request deadline is Friday, April 28. Remember it is a request and subject to approval by HRL staff.

How Does a Resident Check Out?
|
Residents must sign up for a check out time with their RA by Wednesday, April 26. RA check outs will be Thursday, April 27 through Wednesday, May 3.
Residents staying for summer will not check out and will be contacted when their summer assignment is ready. Most summer moves will take place the first week of summer classes in May. Residents must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours for each summer session they want to live on campus and will need to complete the online summer contract.
During the check out residents will turn in their key. For apartments, the last resident to check out will turn in the mail key.
Things to do before check out:
- Remove all belongings
- Clean apartment/suite thoroughly (empty drawers, cabinets, refrigerator, etc.)
- Make sure apartment/suite is in the same condition as when he/she moved in and all furniture is accounted for
- Report all maintenance concerns via Fix My Home
- Remove all decorations from doors and windows
- Take out the trash
When packing up belongings residents are encouraged not to leave items in their vehicles overnight. This provides opportunity for theft.

What If a Resident is Approved to Stay Late and is Checking Out After May 3?
|
|
The resident will not sign up for a check out time with their RA. He/she will go to the Housing and Residence Life office to turn in their key. The HRL office will be open Thursday, May 4 through Sunday, May 7, 8 a.m.-midnight. Beginning Monday, May 8, HRL summer office hours will be Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
If a resident needs to stay after May 7, then he/she needs to complete a summer housing contract. Residents will be charged by the day ($25/day) for all days in housing after
May 7. To complete the summer contract, please log into myUSI, click on the Housing icon to the left and go to the appropriate online form.
Please remember requests to stay after May 7 are subject to HRL approval.
