GardenStudents in Roanoke City's ROTEC Program Support Goodwill Mentoring Programs

Students from Patrick Henry and William Fleming High Schools in Roanoke have been busy this school year building items for Goodwill. The Building Trades Class at Roanoke Technical Education Center (ROTEC), taught by Jesse Truax, has built:
  • Two Picnic Tables
  • Three Park Benches
  • Utility Storage Bin
  • Sign for the Goodwill GoodGuides® Garden
The class will deliver the items they have constructed to the Goodwill GoodGuides Community Garden on Tuesday, April 25th  during their regularly scheduled class time of 8:45am - 10:30am. They will also spend class time on Wednesday, April 26th  setting the benches and the sign in concrete.

"The Goodwill GoodGuides Community Garden is a garden that youth in our mentoring programs have built over the last several years," states Nicole Ross, Goodwill program manager. "These are kids who may have had a run in with the juvenile justice system or may be at risk. To have the students give of their time and talents to build these items for the garden means the world to our youth.  It teaches them that we are all in this together and when we help one another great things can happen for the community."

The garden is located at 3902 Shenandoah Ave, Roanoke, VA 24017. Anyone interested in reserving a plot in the community garden should contact Jaleesa Young at [email protected] or (540) 529.4871. Plots start at $10.00.
