Junior High Speech Festival
Last week, our 7th and 8th grade students participated in our annual Speech Festival. Each grade level had eight speakers picked to participate. The speakers were picked based off of speeches given in their English classes. The 7th grade students spoke on the topic, "What Freedom Means to Me," while the 8th grade students had the topic of "My Responsibility to America." The speakers did a wonderful job delivering their speeches.
After all the speeches, the judges (from Fairmont Preparatory Academy and Education Department) deliberated and named the winners.
For 7th grade, the top speakers were Amethyst A. (1st), and Camden J. (2nd). The 8th grade festival winners were Duke P. (1st) and Natalie B. (2nd).

Color Fun Run
This week, the students participated in the Color Fun Run, a fundraiser encouraging exercise while raising funds for the Historic Anaheim Campus' Fairmont Parent Association (FPA) to fund activities that directly benefit our students! Please turn in all Color Run pledges to the FPA mailbox in the front office. Thank you to all who helped out and made the fun day a success!

3rd Grade Spelling Bee
Our 3rd grade students competed in their spelling bee this week. We had three students tie for second place: Angela S., Stellina A., and Amrit S.  Our top speller was Diya L.
Way to go, spellers!

Penny Wars
Over the past few weeks, the students participated in Penny Wars to benefit the Anaheim Police Department K-9 unit. Each classroom had a jar in which students could place pennies. Additionally, students could put other denominations of money into jars of other classes. Pennies count positive toward a class' total and nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills subtract from a class' total.

It was our most successful Penny War ever, raising over $1,500 for the K-9s. The money is used to help the police K-9 handlers after the dogs are retired, as the cost of keeping the retired K-9 falls on each individual officer. Mr. Felix runs all of the community outreach programs for the Fairmont Parent Association and we can't thank him enough for all of his hard work and dedication! At flag salute this week, Mr. Felix awarded 1st and 2nd place prizes in two categories, Most Pennies and Most Money Raised. For Most Pennies the second place class was Ms. Spinella and first place was Mrs. Wagner's class. For Most Money Raised, Ms. Spinella's class again finished second and Mr. Esquerre's class came out on top.

NJHS Fundraiser for Orangewood
Please join NJHS in their support of Orangewood Foundation, a local nonprofit organization in Santa Ana. Many of the youth are teenagers preparing to transition from the foster care system to adulthood. This foundation aims to teach these young adults life skills. Because the foundation houses so many children, they lack simple items needed in a household. Please help NJHS donate some basic housing supplies such as canned goods and toiletries. Every bit helps. For more details, please contact Mrs. Debreczeni or Mr. Ickes. Donations can be delivered to the front office, room 77, or room 81. NJHS thanks you for your contribution!

Summer Hosting Opportunities
This summer, Fairmont anticipates welcoming a record number of students from our Chinese and Korean partner schools. We are actively looking for Fairmont families willing to host these students. It is a wonderful opportunity for your family to learn about a different culture and share our own. The majority of the students will arrive in the beginning of July and depart at the end of the first week in August (tentatively July 1 to August 3).  These students are in high school and will attend school at Fairmont Preparatory Academy and will be able to take Fairmont t ransportation. We also have junior high students coming for one to two weeks who will also attend classes at Fairmont Prep.
In addition, we are expecting at least one group of  elementary students who will be at the Anaheim Hills  Campus. These students are expected to arrive in late July for two or three weeks. If you are interested in hosting, please contact Andrea Cribbs by email or phone at 714-234-2730. We invite you to attend an upcoming information night! The next one will be Tuesday, March 14, at 6:00 pm in the Historic Anaheim Campus library. RSVP today on our website!

The Fairmont Prep Concert Choir was invited to perform at Knott's Berry Farm on Wednesday, March 22. They performed their Spring Concert repertoire and a had a full day of fun. Knott's Berry Farm supports music education in schools and they invite local schools to perform at their theme park. There are two stages at Knott's; our choir performed on the Calico Stage at 1:30 pm.  As the Fairmont Prep's Choir performance started, families and children and even Knott's employees stopped to watch the performance.  According to Knott's stage crew, the Fairmont Prep's choir performance was beautiful and they were amazed that students were singing in multiple languages, not to mention, they looked very professional, as well.
