Greetings from the Harraseeket Inn! We hope wherever you are, spring has arrived and you're enjoying longer days, greening landscapes and spring blossoms. In last year's April newsletter, "Coop's House", the house next door to the inn where our beloved afternoon tea host, the late Arthur Cooper, use to live, was profiled in a series of preliminary photos in the early stages of L.L.Bean's redecorating project. Because so many of you have inquired about this house and are impatiently awaiting for the photos to be posted on our website, I thought I'd give you a sneak preview. L.L.Bean's interior

Odd and Interesting Data about 102 Birds", and opening the cover I read the inscription, "Mrs. Arthur E. Cooper, Freeport, Maine." Printed in 1952, the book has wonderful illustrations and stories about many of Maine's birds, and I thought about Nora Cooper, and how when I first moved to Freeport she came and knocked on the door of the house I was living in, which is now the Broad Arrow Tavern, introduced herself with that warm, genuine smile of hers, handed me a box of her

The entire house is rented by the night and the rate includes our full buffet breakfast and afternoon tea if you book your reservations directly with us, either over the phone or on our website. All of the furnishings and art work can be purchased from L.L.Bean at their store right here in town. This is a great way to "try before you buy". Many thanks to L.L.Bean for creating this special place for our guests to enjoy, and to the Cooper family for being such great neighbors for so many years.

This month's trivia question is going to be a lot tougher than last months because my broken arm has healed up, thanks to all your well wishes! (Thank you, by the way. The cast comes off tomorrow!) You'll have just once chance to score, so do your research carefully. You're traveling the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and just beached your canoe on the west shore of Eagle Lake. You decide to stretch your legs by taking a little walk. You get turned around and now you're lost in the north Maine woods somewhere east of Allagash Lake, west of Eagle and Chamberlin Lakes. You have about two hours of daylight left to find your way back to the canoe. You stumble over a parallel set of iron rails snaking through the woods and realize you're on a long abandoned train track, which you follow until you see a clearing in the woods up ahead. As you approach the clearing you're stepping over pieces of old boilers, 
wheels and iron wreckage from another time. Suddenly you're looking at two abandoned locomotives parked way out in the middle of the Maine woods. What did these "ghost locomotives" use to do, and what was the name of the now-defunct railroad that owned them? All correct answers win a voucher worth $5. toward food or lodging on your next visit to the inn. You may redeem up to 12 vouchers at one time, a $60. value.
