The WHS PTSA E-Blast will not be sent on December 25 or January 1.  It will resume on January 8, 2018.  Enjoy the holiday season!
From Our Principal

Good morning WHS families,

I wanted to take a minute to wish families a happy holiday season.  I hope that you enjoy the time together as we head into the new year.

When we return on January 3, we will quickly wrap up the semester and head into exam week.  The semester exam schedule has been posted on the WHS website.  Please click here to view the schedule. We will start to discuss the 2018/2019 scheduling process in later January.

As always, I encourage you to review the WHS announcements.  They are a great source of information that are updated daily. Remember to view our new Friday morning video announcements below! Finally, I encourage all families to review the Westlake City Schools Profile.  It is filled with lots of information related to our school district.

Have a wonderful week and holiday season!

Counselor's Corner

PSAT Results - Sophomores and juniors who took the PSAT in October have received their scores electronically from College Board! Scores were sent to the email students provided on their pre-administration card prior to the test. (More information on how to access your child's PSAT results can be found here). We anticipate getting paper scores soon and will go to students' classroom for a brief presentation on how to interpret their scores shortly after winter break. Students will also have access to a free online personalized planning kit based on their PSAT test results and are encouraged to take next steps towards college  planning with unique features on  www.collegeboard.org .

Application Deadline - If you have a senior applying to a college or university with a January 1st deadline, please check and make sure they've requested their transcripts from their school counselor before break begins. We will not be able to send transcripts over winter break!

Service Learning - Just a reminder that students are required to obtain 15 service learning hours each year (60 total hours to graduate)! If your child hasn't accumulated any hours yet this year we encourage them to consider ways they serve time while they have an abundance of it over winter break! There is a bulletin board in the counseling office with service opportunities and copies of the forms that need to be turned in to validate hours. Opportunities can also be found on the high school website.

Scholarships - First semester has focused on getting into college and in second semester the conversation transitions to how to pay for it. Local scholarship applications will be available in March, but in the meantime we encourage seniors to check out the scholarship folder on the senior bulletin board in the counseling office for scholarship opportunities that have been brought to our attention. Additionally, students can utilize Naviance for a national scholarship search under the "colleges" tab.

Class of 2019 - Important Info

Attention Juniors and Parents:  The Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV4/Menactra) is required for school attendance and students need to be vaccinated BEFORE the start of their Senior year.  At least one dose must be given at age 16 years or older.  An updated immunization record needs to be turned in to the school nurse before the start of the 2018-19 new school year.  Please begin submitting records as you complete well visits or call your health care provider to fax a copy to school if the vaccine has already been given.  Click HERE for complete details.
