Dear Friends,
It is with great sadness and fond memories that we say goodbye to San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee who died this past week.
Ed Lee was a supporter of the Rainbow World Fund World Tree of Hope from it's
very beginning.

As City Administrator, a fairly anonymous position in the public eye, Ed would come down to see how the Tree was progressing. He would eagerly accept a crane to write a wish on and would return with a statement in his neat script centered on social justice, equity or the need to nurture and support upcoming generations.
From his background as a community lawyer, I think he truly understood the power of hope and its necessity in society. As Mayor, I think the RWF World Tree of Hope was a special and meaningful expression of the spirit of San Francisco and that led him to unhesitatingly support continuing to have the Tree in City Hall and to sponsor our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Ed Lee's spirit of compassion and passion to achieve social justice will be remembered as part of the legacy of the RWF World Tree of Hope.

Share your wish with us and we'll give it wings. This December, thousands of origami cranes inscribed with wishes for the future of the world grace the World Tree of Hope in the Rotunda of San Francisco City Hall.

The RWF World Tree of Hope is a holiday tree decorated with thousands of white origami cranes, each containing written notes of hope & peace from children and individuals from around the world. The tree is a gift from members of the LGBTQ and Allies community to the world - given to inspire hope and promote peace, love and humanitarianism.
Each crane on the tree inscribed with someone's wish for the world.
LGBTQ COMPASSION SAVE LIVES
RWF continues to be a lifeline for our LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ brothers and sisters around the world -- helping Ugandans fleeing persecution,
securing safe passage out of Iraq and Syria for those in danger, helping HIV positive children in Cuba and South Africa,
funding an "underground railroad" in Central America that helps imperiled transgender women start new lives, and providing aid following natural disasters.
