Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event
Every night, 66 million elementary-aged children in the developing world go to bed hungry. Our community-wide meal packing event, Rise Against Hunger (formerly known as Stop Hunger Now) can make a tremendous difference. Each meal costs 29 cents, and our Lenten offering will support our goal of packing 300,000 meals April 23-25. Please give as generously as you can, and sign up to volunteer during a shift (or several) by clicking the link. Let's work together to end hunger in our lifetime.

Join Us for Worship After Easter
We hope you will continue to worship with us after our Easter celebration. Our sermon series for the six weeks following Easter will be "What do you believe?" based on the Apostles' Creed. This historic statement of foundational Christian faith gives some powerful answers to this question for Christians and for others seeking faith. Join us for the next six weeks to affirm our faith together and beyond the next six weeks, as we strive to live out what we believe!
VHUMC Welcomes 64 Confirmands
The VHUMC church family is stronger as we received the wonderful gift of 64 confirmands into full membership this past Sunday. Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett, was on hand to baptize nine of those who had not been baptized earlier in their lives and to confirm those who professed their faith in Christ. It was a very special evening with all clergy in attendance and our own New Life Singers youth choir leading in this meaningful time of worship.

As our clergy team led each of our training classes, the candidates for confirmation were strengthened in their faith with team mentors to help them through questions, support them, and have fun as a group in outside activities including a retreat at our beloved Camp Sumatanga. During their 13 weeks together, the confirmands also gave to help support missions. The class collected $439.42 to support ATEAM ministries, which is an organization that helps provide comfort and care to children with cancer.

VHUMC looks forward to the ministry of these youth as they continue to serve in the strength of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Sunday Evening Worship
There will be no Sunday Evening Worship on Easter Sunday - enjoy the time with your families! Join us on April 23 when Butch Williams will be preaching.
7th & 8th Grade Mission Trip
Registration is now open for our annual 7th and 8th grade mission trip! We will be going back to Livingston, AL June 18-23 to serve families in need through various construction projects. The cost is $325 which includes all meals and a T-shirt! To register, click on the link below.

We also desperately need chaperones to help make this trip possible, and if you are handy with construction, even better, but certainly not a requirement! For more information or if you would like to serve as a chaperone please contact Jeremiah Stone ([email protected]).

6th Grade Serve Week
We strive to provide ways for our students to be the hands and feet of Christ. Our Serve Week allows our 6th graders the opportunity to serve in the downtown area at four different mission sites. We will serve at a site each day, June 5-8, from 8:00 am - 1:15 pm (including lunch).
  • Monday: YWCA
  • Tuesday: Church of the Reconciler
  • Wednesday: Urban Ministries
  • Thursday: Pathways
The cost is $25 and includes a t-shirt! Your child will need to bring $10 each day for lunch. We hope this opportunity will allow your student to see the needs of others right in our own back yard. To register, please click the link below. If you are interested in serving as a chaperone or van driver, please contact Jeremiah Stone ([email protected]).

Jeremiah Stone to Attend CYMT
We are thrilled to announce that Jeremiah Stone, our Assistant Director of Student Ministries, has been accepted to the Center for Youth Ministry Training (CYMT). CYMT exists to equip youth ministers and churches to develop theologically informed and practically effective youth ministries. He will begin his coursework towards a Master's in Youth Ministries in September of this year, while still working full-time with our students throughout this three-year program. We look forward to all the knowledge he will gain and apply to Thrive Student Ministries and VHUMC as a whole.

Get in Shape with Every Girl Fitness
Looking for a great workout or to get in shape? Join Every Girl Fitness on Monday and Wednesday evenings. A new session of classes will begin on April 10 and run through May 19 from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall and room 245. The cost is $90 for the six-week session. Not sure if Every Girl Fitness is right for you? Come try out a class for free! You will love the class, just take it from two of our EGF participants!

"I was nervous about joining a class like this, but I loved it from Day 1! The class was fun, always different, challenging but not intimidating, and the instructors are the best! This girl who couldn't even run a mile in July has signed up for a half marathon! " - Elizabeth Radford

"I had never exercised at all until I started EGF when I was 49 years old and 25 pounds overweight. Paula and Leigh, the trainers, were so supportive and welcoming of me to their class. I survived the first day and was determined to keep at it. I would recommend EGF to any woman no matter their age or physical ability." Elise Wheeler
Registration Open for Kindermusik Classes
The Conservatory of the Arts is proud to announce that Kindermusik classes will begin this summer at VHUMC. Kindermusik is one of the very best ways to share the wonderful gift of music with young children from infants through age six. These classes are considered pre-instrumental and will have your child ready to start private music lessons by age six. Register now to save your spot for summer classes. There is a June session and a July session. Classes are available both in the morning and late afternoons to accommodate busy schedules of the parents. Click on the link below for more information or to register for these classes!

COA Summer Music Lessons
Summer is a great time to begin music lessons! Don't let your child grow up without being exposed to music in their life! And our instructors love adult students as well! Registration for our summer session begins April 1. Lesson times are flexible during the summer. So why not use this time to learn a new instrument, take voice lessons or continue your current lessons?

April Memory Verse
Our 1st-5th graders have a different memory verse each month. April's verse is: The crowds that went ahead of Him and that followed were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!" -Matthew 21:9

Kids can recite their verse before or after Sunday School in either the sensory room or the elementary office for a sweet treat and a chance to win a bike at the end of the school year! Once they learn their verse for the month they can work on the Books of the Bible or the Apostle's Creed for more chances to win!
Hilltoppers Meeting
Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 18, at 10:30 am, in the Fellowship Hall. Karla Stamps will be performing for us. For information or to make a lunch reservation ($6.00) call Frances Cook (822-2013) or Margaret Flowers ([email protected] / 769-0112) no later than 11:00 am on Friday, April 14. Please note the price and, if possible, have correct change or an extra dollar bill.

Vestavia Hilltoppers is a VHUMC-sponsored organization for persons of retirement age, which meets each month for lunch and a program. They also sponsor trips and other activities that are publicized at meetings. Guests and new members are welcome.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, volunteered, registered, eaten Chick-Fil-A, or prayed for our 3rd Rise Against Hunger Event.

Another Year with Bunny Aid
Thank you to Buffie Whitt and her team for leading our Bunny Aid effort for Hands-On-Birmingham. We appreciate everyone who contributed items or made a financial donation to this wonderful project. Through your generosity, 75 baskets were placed with children at Glenwood schools.

As Easter is upon us, we hope you were able to accept our challenge of the 40 items for 40 days during Lent. I know several of our mission partners received great items that were needed.
