Session Concludes, Now What?

The 2017 Maryland General Assembly ended this past Monday. The Howard County Chamber was active and busy during the session covering, testifying and advocating for Howard County businesses. During the course of the session, the Chamber reported on a magnitude of bills ranging from Mandatory Paid Leave to Fair Scheduling to Tax Increment Financing.

The Chamber will be providing a detailed summary in the next several days on legislation it followed, which will be sure to come back in 2018. In the interim, interested persons may visit the Maryland Reporter for a detailed synopsis of passed and failed legislation.

The Chamber will also host its annual Legislative Wrap-Up Breakfast
Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Columbia where it will have a substantive public policy conversation with business association leaders and Howard County Legislative Delegation members. Click here to register.

Electronic Certificates of Origin

The global B2C e-commerce market for shipments crossing borders is expected to grow from $400 billion today to a total global volume of $1 trillion in 2020, according to Accenture and AliResearch. Additionally,
it is expected that one billion people will shop online and across borders by 2020, with the US being the most popular origin for 25% of consumers worldwide. Very few other sectors of commerce provide such a promising outlook. Bottom line: E-commerce affects nearly every industry sector. The Chamber is now offering a time-saving process for receiving your Certificates of Origin for exporting your products. Create, submit, and print electronically certified documents right at your desk.
