Great Places to Cycle: Prescott-Russell

Perched upon the Quebec border and the shores of the Ottawa River in eastern Ontario, cycling in Prescott-Russell offers a mix of beautiful waterfront and hinterland riding.
Road cyclists will enjoy cycling routes that reach both the Ontario and Quebec-side of the Ottawa River with ferry and bridge crossings making for memorable cycling day trips or multi-day tours in the area.
One of the best trip planning and information resource for the area
Trail riders can traverse the region along the 72 km Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail, with connector routes to/from Ottawa and the Ottawa River. Primarily crushed stone, this trail is a fantastic way to explore the communities of Prescott-Russell.
Circle September 22-23 on your calendar and participate in the 2017
Beau's Octoberfest Ride, a charity event hosted by Beau's Brewery in Vankleek Hill. Ride from Bourget (50km), Ottawa (100km) or Cornwall (80 or 105 km) to the brewery for a pint, BBQ, music and activities before being shuttled back to your start location.

There are a number of new self-guided routes throughout Northumberland, Peterborough, and the Kawartha Lakes regions, all inspired by the annual
SPARK Photo Festival.
Running until April 30, choose from 5
SPARK Spin routes ranging from 10km to 67km in length to take in photographic exhibits at a variety of unique locations. If you are interested in a guided tour, sign up for a group ride along the 30km Lakefield Looper route on April 23.

Now available for your comment (April 12 to May 12) is a draft of the province-wide cycling network.
As part of the process in developing the network of cycling routes across Ontario, the Ministry of Transportation has posted a map online that identifies over 8,000km of roads and trails, that if selected will become provincially recognized and prioritized cycling infrastructure. This is big news for Ontario, and important and exciting step forward for cycling.

This past week we attended the 9th annual
Ontario Bike Summit, a conference for industry professionals focusing on the development of cycling in Ontario.
Announced at the Summit were a number of exciting new projects, which we are pleased to be affiliated with including Ontario 150 Celebrate by Bike.
Stay tuned for more as we get set to roll out a number of community celebrations for cyclists this summer.

Chi-Cheemaun ferry runs May to October, crossing from Tobermory to South Baymouth in less than 2 hours. There are special rates for ride-on cyclists choosing to leave their car on the mainland. A free ride is included for all participants in the
Manitoulin Passage Ride, a popular 2 day cycling event, June 3 and 4. Guided tours are available at other times of the year.
