Dear Parents,
We have had an awesome week back from Spring Break. Our students have come back eager to learn and ready to finish strong! Next week, our 4th graders will take the Writing STAAR test.  Due to the test, we will NOT have tutoring for any of our students on Tuesday, March 28th.  We will resume tutoring on Thursday, March 30th. Please read below for more information.  In my email that I sent yesterday regarding Mrs. Danielson, the website was incorrect. If you would like to support her and her family, please click here . Please accept my sincere apology in advance for any confusion this caused.

2017 Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host the 11th annual Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at a new location; the Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano. The theme is a Southern Soirée - Celebrating 100 Years of Lovejoy ISD. Denim and Diamonds Chair, Andrea Paranteau and Co-Chair, Carrie McClure welcome you to a night featuring dinner, entertainment, and live auctions.
 
Tickets are now on sale for $90 each. The ticket price will increase to $100 beginning Monday, March 10th. This year, guests will be seated at tables of 12. Raffle Tickets
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle entitled "Fab Five", which includes:

Raffle tickets are $100. Only 500 tickets will be sold. A drawing will be held for each item, giving each ticket a chance to win one of these prizes. The winners will be drawn at the Denim and Diamonds Gala. You do not need to be present to win. REMINDER!
STAAR Writing Testing on Tuesday, March 28, 2017
Our fourth graders will be taking the STAAR Writing test on Tuesday, March 28, 2017
.  As a reminder, students should not bring cell phones or any electronic devices to school on this day due to testing.
Due to testing, there is a change in the schedule. 

4th Grade Writing -  March 28
8:30- 11:10- Testing
11:15-11:45- Lunch
11:50-12:00- Bathroom Break
12:10-1:30- Testing
1:35-2:05- Pack-up/ Read
2:10-3:00- Specials
 
All other grade level schedules will NOT be affected!

Do not forget to send appropriate snacks! As always, guests aren't allowed to dine with our test takers.  Also, we respectfully ask that there are no volunteers or lunch guests on this day for any grade level.  Should you have unusual circumstances, please contact me at (469)742-8077 and we can find a solution. 

STAAR Testing
STAAR tests for all of our students are below. Please keep the STAAR testing dates in mind while scheduling doctor appointments and orthodontics appointments. Testing begins promptly at 8:30am, if any student arrives after this time, they are not allowed to take the STAAR test that day. If a student is pulled out of school once he/she has begun their STAAR exam, the state requires it be graded "as is". If a child is absent and they return within the make-up window, then they will take the test the day they return.  If you have questions or concerns regarding any conflicts you may have with the STAAR testing dates, please contact   Nardeen Boxell .

It is time to register for our last session of Watch Me Sculpt.  The session will begin April 3rd and will be held each Monday from 3:05 - 4:00 pm in the art room.  The cost of this six week session$78 and includes all supplies.  Register ends March 31st. Please click here for more information.
 
NEW! No Tutoring on Tuesday, March 28th
Due to STAAR testing on Tuesday, March 28th, we will not have tutoring after school in ANY grade level. We will resume our tutoring schedule on Tuesday, March 30th.
 
Daddy/Daughter Dance
Dust off your boots and get gussied up for dinner, dessert, photos, and a two-steppin' good time! The Lovejoy Elementary PTA is hosting a Daddy/Daughter Western Shindig on Friday, April 7th from 6:30 - 8:30pm.  Tickets are $20 per family if purchased by March 24th and $25 per family if purchased after the 24th or at the door.  To view the order form, please click here.


2017 Kindergarten Round-up
Kindergarten Round-Up will be held the week of April 3 rd - 7 th at each elementary school from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The Round-up is a pre-registration opportunity for parents of kindergarten age students for the 2017 - 2018 school year.
If you have a child who will be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2017, please plan to attend. 
**It is very important for all parents to enroll their children for Kindergarten this week to help us plan for next year. 
Pre-Registration Steps:  It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3
1.  Email your campus registrar with the following information:
Student's legal name
Date of birth
Last four digits of your child's social security number
Home address and phone number
Hart Registrar - [email protected]
Lovejoy Registrar - [email protected]
Puster Registrar - [email protected]
2.  You will receive a user name and password by email to complete your online registration at www.lovejoyisd.net.  Click on Parents, PowerSchool Parent Portal, and Create Account.  Once an account is created, you will need to complete the on-line forms.
3.  Attend Kindergarten Round-Up between April 3 rd - April 7 th at your campus between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. 
Kindergarten Round-Up is a parent event only, students and parents will be invited to the school on May 12 th for a Kindergarten Sneak Peek from 8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Lovejoy Elementary Choir - Allen Americans
The Allen Americans are excited to invite all students, staff, family, and friends to the March 30 th  Allen  Americans Hockey Game, headlined by a special performance of the National Anthem by the Lovejoy  Elementary Choir.  All performers will receive a complimentary ticket to the game!  To order tickets, click here  or call 972-912-1000.

LES PTA Scholarship Application
Each year the Lovejoy Elementary PTA provides a $500 scholarship for a college bound Lovejoy Senior.  The student must have attended LHS for their sophomore, junior, and senior years to be eligible.  Please pass along the information about the scholarship to anyone who might be interested.  Interested students should contact Tina Walenciak at [email protected].

NEW! BYOP® Spring Session Begins on March 27
BYOP® Program Overview:  This training program is designed for any volleyball player, no matter what skill or ability level, as long as their goal is to become the best they can be. Parents must be fully dedicated to being actively involved in this program. BYOP® will provide excellent volleyball fundamental skills training, as well as life lessons to both player and parent. 
BYOP® Program Details: E ach training session will build upon a solid foundation of all fundamental skills needed to participate in the sport of volleyball. Parents must be engaged in every training session and involved in the home training program involving physical and skills activities.

Fantastic Fossils: April 11
Join John S. Mead -- passionate Biology Teacher, Origins Explorer, and Nature Photographer -- as he takes us through his exciting participation in Dr. Lee Berger's excavation of a new human species, Homo naledi, from the Rising Star Cave in South Africa. This species of human ancestor is believed to be 900,000 to 2 million years old and was an incredible find. The discovery of Homo naledi is featured on the October 2015 cover of National Geographic Magazine, and in a current exhibit at the Perot Museum. Mr. Mead will share stories about the discovery, as well as his outstanding photos. This event is sponsored by the Lovejoy Gifted Association (LGA). LGA members and families may attend free. All middle school and high school students may attend the event for free with a current student ID. There is a $5 admission fee for adults who are not LGA members.

TONIGHT! LISD Color Guard Showcase:  March 23rd
On March 23, the LISD Color Guard Showcase will be held in the Lovejoy High Gym at 7:30 PM.  This free event is open to the community.  We hope you will join us in support of the Color Guard wish them well for championships.

LHS Choir Chipotle Spirit Night:  March 28th
The LHS Choir will host a Chipotle Spirit Night on Tuesday, March 28th from 5:30 - 8:30 PM at the Chipotle located at 103 Central Expressway in Allen. 50% of the profits will go to supporting LHS Choir, so bring a friend , this flyer (printed or on your phone), and your appetite in support our Singing Leopards.

Camp Invention - June 19-23
Camp Invention will be held at Sloan Creek Intermediate School from June 19th through 23rd for children entering K - 6th grades.  For more information click here
