Tzedek Group News

Recent news has focused more of our attention on immigration and refugee aid. What do Jewish sources say about these issues? How do we interpret the command to "ahavtem et ha-ger"-to love / befriend the stranger? How do our Sages understand "the stranger" and our obligations toward immigrants, refugees, and "strangers" in our community?

As part of the Tzedek Committee's new Welcoming the Stranger initiative, Rabbi Silver has generously offered the space of her class on Shabbat morning, April 1st, for a discussion of Jewish sources on these issues, led by Mia Bagneris and Danny Mintz.  At the end of the class, we will discuss how Shir Chadash can get involved with this issue, including lending support to Beth El Synagogue, a Conservative congregation in Omaha, Nebraska, as they sponsor and sustain three refugee families in their community.
