Marc L. Terry Elected to
National Council of School Attorneys Board of Directors
 

The National Council of School Attorneys (COSA) elected Marc L. Terry, Partner in the Firm's Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits and Public Education Practice Groups, to its Board of Directors. 
 
The COSA Board of Directors, which is a part of the National School Boards Association, is comprised of select leaders in the field of education law.  The 22-member Board is selected from COSA's 3000+ members from around the United States and Canada.
 
Marc leads the Firm's Public Education practice.  He has been the lead negotiator for numerous collective bargaining negotiations, and has negotiated multiple teacher contracts that include merit-based compensation.   He regularly advises districts regarding school policy, student discipline, student rights, the budget process, professional licensing requirements, the non-renewal of professional staff and other education-related issues.   Marc also advises clients in a wide range of labor and employment-related issues, such as investigating employee misconduct; imposing employee discipline; negotiating employment and separation agreements; drafting employment policies; managing employees with medical conditions under the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act; conducting reductions-in-force and complying with wage and hour laws. 
 
Marc has successfully defended clients in labor arbitrations, against unfair labor practice charges before the Department of Labor Relations and claims of employment discrimination before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
 
Marc currently serves on the Ashland School Committee and is a former (2011) President of the Massachusetts Council of School Attorneys.  In 2008, Marc was selected by the Worcester Business Journal as one of "40 under Forty" professionals honored for their professional excellence and community service.
