April 14, 2017 - April 23, 2017
City Offices Closed for Good Friday - All city offices will be closed on Friday, April 14 in observance of the Good Friday Holiday.  This includes the 18th District Court.  Trash and recycling pick up will not be affected and will continue on their regular schedule.

Easter Break Open Skate - If you are looking for something to do with the kids while they are on Easter break, the Mike Modano Ice Arena has an open skating schedule Monday, April 17 through Friday, April 21 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for kids and $3 for skate rental.  The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood. 

 

Resource Open House - On Thursday, April 20 there will be a resource open house at the CLS Offices, located 35425 Michigan Ave.  The resource open house is geared toward parents and caregivers of children and adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and anyone receiving mental health services.  This event is a chance for caregivers to learn and ask questions about the mental health system.  The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then again from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  

Earth Day and Time Capsule Ceremony -  The City of Westland will bury a time capsule as part of its Annual Earth Day Celebration which will take place Friday, April 21.  The ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.   Westland's  original  time capsule was dug up and opened on the city's 50th Anniversary on May 16, 2016.  The city requested feedback from residents on what should go in the new time capsule and items have been collected from residents, businesses, city officials and various civic organizations in order to paint a picture of what life in Westland is like in present-day.  The time capsule will be opened on the City's 100th Anniversary in 2066.   Mayor Wild will also be presenting the coveted Mission:Green Eco-Award to this year's three award winners and will also be announcing a new "Greening Westland" program where the city will begin replacing neighborhood Emerald Ash trees that were lost to the Emerald Ash Borer Disease.

Save the Date - Mayor Wild's Annual State of the City Address -  Mayor William R. Wild will deliver his Annual State of the City Address on Tuesday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.    During this year's State of the City, Mayor Wild will reflect on the City of Westland's accomplishments and outline his vision for the future. "My 2016 State of the City Address focused on all the amazing accomplishments and projects the City of Westland saw throughout the year and also was a celebration of the city's 50th anniversary," commented Mayor Wild.  "I have been proud to serve as Westland's Mayor for ten years and I am excited to share with the residents information on some innovative programming we are launching this year."

The City is served by two public school districts; Wayne-Westland Community Schools serving 12,000 youth was recently named one of the Best School in Michigan by WXYZ-TV and is the proud recipient of 14 Golden Apple and two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.  Livonia Public Schools, educating nearly 15,000 students, is proud of their MEAP/MME scores that exceed state averages and the District has also earned Golden Apple and Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School Awards.
