Vincent Brown and Erica Moody, Awarded Fulbright Scholarships

KSU Honors Scholars, Vincent Brown and Erica Moody, have been awarded prestigious Fulbright Scholarships. 

Vincent Brown earned his B.A. in Integrative Studies with a dual concentration in French and Korean languages in December 2016. He has been awarded the  Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to South Korea. After fulfilling his Assistantship, he plans to attend graduate school to study Urban Planning. He will later return to the United States to help improve national infrastructure and transportation networks.

Erica Moody with graduate as an Honors Scholar in May 2017 as a Coles Business Scholar/Economics major.  She has been awarded the Fulbright Study/Research Award to the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. In the U.K., she will complete her M.Sc. in Behavioral Economics. Erica aspires to study the impacts of poverty on rational decision making, and see how these insights can be used to improve public policy. 
Eight KSU Honors Students present at the Southern Regional Honors Conference

Congratulations to the eight Honors students who were chosen to present at this year's Southern Regional Honors Conference in Asheville, North Carolina!

The theme of this year's conference was "Diving Into Diversity: Opportunities and Obligations in Honors Education." Highlights from the trip include touring downtown Asheville, visiting the Battery Park Book Exchange, and listening to this year's keynote speaker.
KSU Honors Scholar, Kelsei Brown, Accepted to Vanderbilt

Kelsei Brown graduated from the University Honors Program in fall 2016 with a degree in Biology. She has recently been accepted to medical school at several prestigious universities including  Morehouse (with a $20,000 renewable annual scholarship), Mercer, and The Medical College of Georgia. 

After careful consideration, Kelsei made the decision to attend Vanderbilt University beginning in the fall. She will study Obstetrics and Gynecology. After graduation, she hopes to open her own OB/GYN clinic.

Kelsei reflected on her time in the KSU Honors Program and said,  "the University Honors Program has taught me to value perseverance, determination, and ambition in the absence of awards or materialistic benefits. Without such a program, I may not have fully developed the diligence needed to devote my life to the study of medicine."
Honors Discovery: Bone Records, Offered in the Fall

The University Honors Program will offer the first Honors Discovery course in the fall. The course will focus on t h e   S t o r y   o f   C e n s o r s h i p ,   X - R a y   F i l m ,   a n d   B o o t l e g   M u s i c   i n   S o v i e t   R u s s i a. 

Dr. Patricia Poulter, Dean of the College of the Arts, has expertise on the topic and will be the instructor for the course. The class will be held on  Wednesdays from 12:30-1:50pm on the Marietta campus from August 23rd to October 4th.



Sarah Kelsey, KSU Honors Student, Travels to Beirut, Lebanon

Sarah Kelsey will graduate as an Honors Scholar in May 2017 with an undergraduate degree in International Affairs.  

As a freshman, Sarah traveled to the Carter Center with the Presidential Emerging Scholars Program. This visit inspired her work towards an internship with the Carter Center. In 2016, she entered the Center's highly competitive internship  process and earned a spot in the Conflict Resolution Program. During this time, the Carter Center provided Sarah with the opportunity to travel to Beirut, Lebanon to help support a workshop that addressed issues related to the peace process in Syria, which involved participants who traveled from Syria and abroad. Sarah credits her internship and the support of the University Honors Program with providing her the skills needed to succeed in the field of International Affairs. When reflecting back on her internship, Sarah said, "m y experience in Beirut was incredible and I have gained valuable knowledge about the logistics, operation, and role of a moderator in workshops."

KSU Honors Scholar, Kayleen MacDonald, Making an Impact on her Community

Kayleen MacDonald will be graduating as an Honors Scholar in May 2017. She has worked with Georgia CPR and Safety since she was 12 years old. Her mother founded the company in 1996 after her brother became disabled because CPR was not performed in time. 

Kayleen will graduate with a degree in Graphic Communications. She is using her degree and design expertise to revitalize the marketing efforts of Georgia CPR and Safety. She is also a certified BLS Instructor through the American Heart Association. Kayleen will continue to support the company goal of saving one million lives through teaching CPR and First Aid all over Georgia.  
KSU Honors Students Travel to London for their City as Text Course

City as Text is an  interdisciplinary study abroad course offered by the University Honors Program. Students explore topics related to their disciplines and visit the city being studied. 

This year, the course focused on the city of London, England. Honors students spent their Spring Break visiting iconic landmarks such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London,  Shakespeare's Globe Theater, and the British Museum.
