Leveraging the Economic Impact of Agriculture With "Selling Food to Ontario" Workshop

The Town of Georgina hosted the "Selling Food to Ontario" Workshop.  This is a workshop offered by the Ontario Ministry  of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs  (OMAFRA) and was held at The Link in Sutton on February 2nd. This event was the first of its kind and attracted almost 50 registrants from as far away as Sudbury.
The purpose of the workshop was to create new opportunities for farm or food businesses by learning how to expand into new markets including;  restaurants, foodservice food retailers, institutions and other wholesale buyers.  Key speakers from OMAFRA and Foodland Ontario presented information on market channel opportunities, basics of food regulations, costing and pricing products for success, food packaging and labelling, as well as food trends that provide insight into  consumer/industry expectations. The workshop also provided an overview of Canada's Evolving Demographic Landscape and how this affects the types of food we purchase and/or produce.

This workshop is aligned with the Economic Development  Strategy and Action Plan that supports activities intended to increase the capacity and economic impact of agriculture, food and agri-tourism.
