Search Committee applications are now being accepted. Committee work will begin in earnest after the parish profile has been communicated church-wide, but preliminary training will probably be held sometime during late summer. Application forms are located in Hannaford Hall. Besides requesting nominee information, the form also specifies the criteria and characteristics most desired for an effective Search Committee. Regarding the time frame, the nomination form says: "A good rule of thumb is to plan for one evening meeting each week for anywhere from six months...to one year." The application period will end on May 31.
Confirmations will take place on Saturday, May 6 at St. Anne Church, West Chester. Persons 12 and up are encouraged to be confirmed, and anyone who wishes to be a member of the Vestry, a delegate to Diocesan Convention, or hold any diocesan position must be a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church. Please see Joanna if you are not yet confirmed or received (from another denomination) and wish to do so this year.
The next
Profile Gathering will take place on
Sunday, April 30. 2017 at 12:00 noon in Hannaford Hall. Food will be served and child care will be available. At this meeting, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Smith, rector at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Dublin, Ohio will offer a presentation on "Generations," talking about the gifts and role of the various "generations" (Baby Boomer, Gen X and Y, Millennials, etc.) in the church. Since Calvary is such a diverse church, it will be helpful during this transition toward a new rector to know how to involve all age groups in the life of the church, by supporting and embracing the various gifts that they offer. This is a chance to meet the Polaroid Generation and the Snapchat Generation and everybody in between!

From the Interim Rector
The wonder of resurrection:
A triumph of humility
The birth of Christ came at night-a night filled with the soft haze of stars about to break with the song of angels, a luminous brightness-a "silent night." It's God's time-a mystical time of mystery and wonder and awe. The staggering truth is born on this night, that God, in God's infinite love for us, sent God's only son to be born among us.
We might be afraid of God, and of God's deep, deep love for us, except that God chose to make himself known in the most appealing and accessible of creatures-a little child. God showed that God believes in us humans, that God believed in us enough to be worthy to bear God's son, who would live with us. God is not ashamed of us, even as we fret and worry and admit how wicked we are. God honors our humanity, because in our truest and deepest humanity, we are given the capacity to love, to trust, and to hope.
The resurrection of Christ came in the very early morning-after a dark and somber night, now a quiet, quiet morning without song or talk or even hope, but only tears.
But it's God's time again, though no one knows it yet. The angel that appears is somber rather than joyful, though the angels in both events say, as angels always do, "Do not be afraid." And perhaps we can call this morning a mystical time, a time of mystery and wonder and awe, as was that night many years ago.
But this is a different kind of mystery and a different wonder and awe, filled instead with fear and bewilderment and even disbelief. God's power is clear in raising Jesus from the dead, and it is a fearsome power. Yet still, as with the birth of Jesus, we are shown God's deep, deep love for us.
Despite our betrayal of his son, God still believes in us. Despite our act in snuffing out Jesus' humanity, God still honors our humanity. Despite our denial of Jesus' love for us, God still loves us.
So God raises up Jesus from the dead. God has triumphed-but not with the power of force and tyranny but with the power of humility and forgiveness, compassion and mercy. The morning has broken, the news has broken, and we too are risen to new life.

Sunday School
**Please join us for an Easter Egg hunt instead of Sunday School this week.
Please bring your baskets to collect your eggs! I will have a few extra in case you forget.Hopefully we will be outside, but if it does storm, we will use the Sunday School space for our hunt.**
This past week we heard the story Jesus the King. It tells the Palm Sunday story.

Family Worship Service
Please join us for the Easter Egg hunt following the service today! Bring a basket to collect your eggs. There will be a few extra in case you forget. If the weather is nice, we'll be outside. If not, we'll be upstairs in the Sunday School hallway.
Parents, please know that we are adding some quieter alternatives to the instruments for children to use during the service! There are soft toys on the bottom shelf of the prayer board. There are also children's guides to the service on key rings and activity pages in baskets on the name tag table. Please be sure to return materials to their baskets after the service so that we can set up easily for future weeks.
