Communities around the country are celebrating National Library Week by highlighting the value libraries bring to their communities. At Camp Verde Community Library it seems more appropriate to celebrate National Library Week by reminding our community how thankful we are for all the support, enthusiasm and use you bring/send our way. Because of you, Camp Verde, we have a beautiful new library from which to serve our community! Thank you.

2:00p in the Terracotta Room: Meet Astrophotographer, Mike Cadwell & Learn about the Nuances of His Craft
Mike Cadwell, a member of the Astronomers of Verde Valley, will be at Camp Verde Community Library's opening of his astrophotography exhibit. The exhibit will hang throughout the library until the end of July to coincide with and enhance the Discover NASA: From Our Town to Outer Space exhibition .

Mike has been photographing the night skies for over 40 years. The dark skies in the Verde Valley favor the long exposures required for beautiful astrophotographs of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. This exhibit will showcase some of the most colorful and unique objects to be found in deep space. Many of the celestial objects in the exhibit cannot be seen by the human eye, not even when looking through large telescopes.

Astrophotography is a specialized branch of photography used to record aesthetically pleasing images of the sky, rather than images for scientific research. Besides recording the details of objects such as the Sun, Moon and planets, a branch of astrophotography called deep-sky astrophotography allows us to capture images invisible to the human eye such as dim stars, nebulae and galaxies. This is done by using long time exposures and a wide range of specialized equipment and techniques dedicated to the hobby.  The exposure times for the photos in this exhibit range from two to twenty hours.
