Cooperatively Speaking
The Latest News from PCPI
Greetings!

Time for the annual meeting is fast approaching, and it has really had me thinking.  Do I have time to go?  What will I get out of it?  Can I afford it?  I'm already plenty busy with my job and my own life...why should I get involved with something else?  My guess is that you may have some of the same doubts echoing in your mind.

Over the years I have learned that I am reluctant to jump in to any new situation without knowing exactly how I'll fit in or how it will turn out.  But I have also discovered that hesitation means missed opportunities, and waiting to figure everything out ahead of time keeps me from taking action.  green-polka-dots.gif

For me, PCPI provides a much needed connection to a widespread community of people who not only value cooperative education but who make it a reality. I want to meet them, and I want to learn more. So, I took the first step and bought my plane ticket.

See you in Indianapolis!

Proposed Bylaws Changes
To be voted on at the Annual Meeting

Every once in a while it's good to take the time to stop and reflect on where you've been and where you want to be.  That's true for individuals and for organizations.

The result of one such reflection is a collection of recommended changes to the PCPI Bylaws. The recommended changes are intended to bring the bylaws closer to the reality of current organizational operation and to more closely mirror our community of members.

Recommended changes include:
  • allowing electronic signatures
  • allowing meetings by telecommunication
  • adding Marika Townshend Travel Grants as a standing committee
  • changing the composition of a quorum from including minimum council representation to representation from at least 3 states/provinces
  • incorporating a procedure for a dissolution of the organization
  • eliminating the requirement that presidents of councils be included in the make up of the Governing Board
  • replacing Executive Board meeting requirements with formal interim conference call meetings of the Governing Board
To view the bylaws in their entirety, including highlights of recommended changes, download  Proposed Changes to Bylaws 2017 .  Comments can be submitted to Kathy Ems. Changes will be reviewed, discussed, and voted on at the Annual Meeting.
