A special shout-out to the GrapeVine partners, who are piloting our new and revised 2017 units! Their work helps us gain valuable feedback from the community to develop the best product possible. We look forward to presenting brain health, breast cancer, and self-care units at July's conference!
Tips for Finding Out Family Health History
When it comes to learning your personal health risks, family history is important. Yet, as we acknowledge in the Advance Care Planning unit, starting a conversation can be difficult. The following article provides tips from a genetic counselor with UW Health for capturing and understanding your family's health history:

Nutrition for Reducing Dementia Risk
Diets designed to boost brain health are a rather new development in the field of nutrition. Learn here about two dietary patterns, the Canadian Brain Health Food Guide and the MIND Diet , which are yielding promising, preliminary results in reducing the risk of Alzheimer's disease. The MIND Diet is information you will see in the revised "Healthy Aging Brain" unit, along with other lifestyle recommendations for brain health.

GRAPEVINE PARTNER FEATURE:  Candi Cornelius
Candi Cornelius is the Prenatal Care Coordinator at the Oneida Community Health Center. After learning about GrapeVine's various topics about a year ago, she saw the program as a way to help expand the continuum of care for her prenatal women- "anything to add to their toolkit for a healthy pregnancy (and beyond)." She is particularly interested in the new Self-Care unit, which will be introduced at the 2017 GrapeVine Conference!

Candi's GrapeVine work started with prenatal women in mind, but she also connects with other community health nurses to present sessions to women of all ages within the Oneida community. Most recently, she completed a bone health session for the Women's Wellness Group at Oneida Nation High School alongside Margaret  Vanden Heuvel, the School Nurse Consultant. When presenting to a younger audience, she hopes to help them "look forward" and understand that what they are doing now impacts their health later on.

Chronic disease isn't usually something we think about until we're older, but the information in GrapeVine sessions is not just for older audiences.  That's why Candi encourages all GrapeVine partners to "dive in" and explore different audiences and age groups.
Would you like to be featured in the next newsletter? Send your session stories and pictures to Nora at [email protected] . We'd love to share what you've been up to!
