The Summer Enrichment Camps have been finalized, and we are excited to offer opportunities for Pre-K through 12th grade. You will find everything from dodge ball to robotics, and cooking to coding.
Summer Enrichment Camps will be offered in three sessions:

heatre camp), information for all enrichment camps is available through this link. If there is a need to register through the camp provider, the link will be provided with the session description for each session (e.g., PSAT Prep from Princeton Review).
Please review the enrichment camps and consider one or more of these excellent opportunities for your children this summer.
Lovejoy ISD Centennial Art Contest
It is a pleasure to announce the winner of the Lovejoy ISD Centennial Art Contest, Hudson Samuels. Hudson is a 9th grade student at Lovejoy High School, enrolled in Jennifer Holcombe's Digital and Interactive Media class.
We received almost 90 entries for this contest. Thank you to all of the students who participated and shared their talent and creativity with us.
Clarification Regarding Residency
We are often asked questions regarding residency. A frequent question is, "If I move out of the district, will my students be allowed to stay in Lovejoy ISD?" The answer is: K-12 students will be allowed to complete the semester in which they are enrolled at the time of their move. K-12 students may then enroll in subsequent semesters through the Lovejoy Tuition-Based Enrollment program. Students who move out of the district prior to their Senior year will have to pay tuition as do other students who live outside of our Lovejoy ISD boundaries. School Funding
The Texas House and Texas Senate are now considering school finance and the budget. For those of you who have been asking about contacting key legislators regarding school funding, now is the time to make those contacts. Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten
Lovejoy ISD is accepting applications for tuition-based Pre-Kindergarten. This comprehensive program will be staffed by credentialed teachers and housed on the Puster Elementary School campus. This program will offer enhancements in music, fitness, art, library, science, technology, engineering, and math. We are enthusiastic about providing a Lovejoy education for community members looking for a rich learning experience which will provide a firm foundation for kindergarten and beyond.

Legacy Read
Making a Difference Through Compassion/Walking a Mile in My Shoes #CompassionateLovejoy
We are pleased to introduce a school-wide reading experience which will foster and promote a community of readers at LISD, while also celebrating diversity. The goal is to encourage empathy, perspective taking, and acceptance by prompting Leopards to read books about people who are different from themselves and those who make a difference in the world with their compassionate actions. By immersing ourselves in the stories of others, we can better understand the paths they choose to follow.

WSMS Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras
On Wednesday, April 5th and Thursday, April 6th, the Willow Springs Middle School Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras participated in the annual Region 25 UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest at McKinney North High School.
The Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras received the highest honor of the Sweepstakes Award, a First Division Superior Award on stage, coupled with a First Division Superior Award in the Sight-reading room. This is the first year in program history to take both a Varsity and Non-Varsity middle school group to this event. The judges consistently remarked on how professional and musical the students were and how they played beyond just notes and rhythms to create a beautiful musical experience.

Twenty-four WSMS Choir students placed in the All-Region Choir. There were over 470 students who auditioned.

Congratulations to Emilee Gant and Carson Harrington for receiving the Tom Landry Scholarship for their outstanding leadership. Only 15 exceptional students in the metroplex were chosen for this award. They will be honored at the Tom Landry Scholarship Banquet on April 24th.
Sports Medicine
The Student Athletic Trainers (SATs) participated in the North Texas Athletic Training Symposium on Saturday at UT Arlington. The SATs participated in learning labs about upper extremity anatomy and injuries. They also competed in a videotaping and Quiz bowl contest.

Journalism
Students across the Metroplex submitted more than 1,200 stories, photos and videos to be judged by the Dallas Morning News staff. The top three entries in each category were recognized with gold, silver and bronze awards.
Finalists also attended sessions with the Dallas Morning News and WFAA staffers, and were treated to a lunch catered by Wolfgang Puck.

Spring is always a wonderful opportunity to recognize the tremendous student successes in Lovejoy. Recently, our high school students competed in UIL Academic events. LHS took 4th place overall as a team in the UIL Regional Competition. Congratulations to the students who competed in the UIL Regional Competition, and to the following students and their coaches who are advancing to UIL State at UT Austin.

The Computer Science Team took first place in the Team Programming competition. The team event is composed of two competitions: a written 40 question test and a 2-hour programming competition. The results of the written test, below, put the team in a solid first place going into the programming round.

The programming competition consisted of 12 problems. Lovejoy solved 8 of the 12 in two hours which, combined with the written tests, placed Lovejoy in 1st for the team event; and when all the Regions had posted, Lovejoy had the highest score in the State.

Kids 1st Summer Camp
High School Volunteers Needed
Lovejoy Cub Scout Pack 358 is looking for high school volunteers in need of volunteer hours to help with the annual Blue & Gold banquet event on Saturday, April 22nd at Lovejoy Elementary from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Blue & Gold is a celebration of the accomplishments of the Cub Scouts who have earned their next rank. Each scout will "crossover" a bridge and be welcomed into his next rank. The Webelos 2 will hold a special ceremony called the Arrow of Light, and will be received into their new Boy Scout Troop. This is a big accomplishment for the Scouts who have worked hard all year.
Cub Scout Pack 358 serves all three Lovejoy elementary schools. We appreciate the help of our high school friends who assist in making this event a big success.

Softball Presents Little Leopards Night: April 13
Join Lovejoy Softball for Little Leopards/WSMS Night on Thursday, April 13th for the JV (5:30 PM) and Varsity (7:00 PM) games. Little Leopards will join the Varsity girls on the field for the National Anthem before the Varsity game. There will be posters for autographs, running the bases, stickers, and raffle items between the Varsity game innings.
Majestics Spring Show - Simply the Best: April 20-22
The Majestics Spring Show Simply the Best highlights the 10th Anniversary of the Majestics Dance Team. From its earliest beginnings with 14 members to its largest team of 40 girls, the Majestics have always sparkled and smiled their majestic red lips at sporting events, campus activities, and performance venues. Come celebrate with us as we mingle the past with the present and deliver a show-stopping dance revue.

Relay for Life: April 28
The annual Relay for Life event will be held on April 28th from 6:00 PM - 12:00 PM at the Lovejoy High School Stadium. The Relay for Life Committee will be cutting ponytails for Beautiful Lengths, an organization which, partnered with the American Cancer Society, uses donated hair to create free wigs for women losing their hair due to cancer treatment. The committee is looking for selfless donors to cut their hair onstage at the event to donate to making these wigs for cancer patients. Donors may donate as little as 8 inches, but more if they please. The hair cannot have been chemically treated, have more than 5% grays, or be dyed permanently. Anyone, any age may donate.

Relay for Life will also feature the Mr. Relay contest. Similar to Mr. Lovejoy, Mr. Relay will have male participants from 9th through 12th grades who will compete in several rounds, such as talent and Q&A. A panel of judges (teachers from LHS) will determine the winner.

Relay for Life Luminaries
The Relay for Life Committee is selling Luminaria, a commemorative item which will be on display during the 2017 LHS Relay for Life event. The Luminaria honors all those who have had cancer, those who have survived, and those who have sadly passed away. Luminaria are $10 each and can be ordered by

Oxfam Hunger Banquet: April 30
An Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a memorable, interactive event which brings hunger and poverty issues to life. After 40 years, this volunteer-led effort is still going strong and has changed hundreds of thousands of lives.

WSMS Independent Studies student, Carrie Duke, is planning this hunger banquet for her 2nd semester project.
Participants will choose an income card which will depict what they will have for dinner. Depending on the income card, attendees will receive either a more nutritious and a higher quantity of food, or a less nutritious meal.

Taylor Johnson - Class of 2013
Taylor graduated summa cum laude in 3 1/2 years from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Communication Disorders. She was accepted to several graduate schools for the upcoming fall semester, and has decided to attend the University of North Texas to pursue her master's degree in Speech Pathology.
