Gardening tips, advice, and recommendations will be shared from Stewart Myers, expert gardener and owner of Myers Plants & Pottery.
This week's topic:  Shade Gardens

A question Myers often gets this time of year is..."What can I plant in the shade?" The answer is...A Lot! Creating a shade garden will add color, texture, and contrast to your yard. Keep in mind, there are a lot of beautiful perennials well-suited for just this purpose...and they are low maintenance. Here are several plants that you should consider in your shade garden.

Rex Begonias - Heuchera & Heucherellia - Star Grass - Cobra Lilies - Japanese Woodland Primrose - Coleus - Creeping Jenny - Hosta - Lenten Rose - Caladiums - Rhododendron - and more.

Below is a beautiful pink snowflake  Japanese Woodland Primrose. This perennial will have large flowers in spring, with stems 12" + inches high.
Another beautiful shade plant is the Dancing Crane Cobra Lily. It adds height and displays a stunning tube and upward-facing tongue.

Look What I Found!

Who doesn't like a good box? This one is large, light weight, and ready for someone to take it to the next level. Imagine adding some metal legs to make it a nice upright cabinet or side table. Add a little paint on the outside and cover the inside with fabric, it could be a unique wet bar.

Happy hunting!
Picture of the Week

This single red rose caught my eye during a walk in the garden center this week. There's something about a beautiful rose that makes you stop, lean in, and smell its wonderful fragrance...that's just what I did.
Save-The-Date!!!

Saturday April 22 - 11:00am
Many people make rose purchases based on pretty blooms in the garden center. What they don't realize is that roses come in all shapes, sizes and colors. America's Favorite Rose Gardener, Chris VanCleave, aka "The Redneck Rosarian," will reveal the various types of roses, their growth habits and level of care to help you decide which rose is the right rose for your garden space. It's a fun and interactive Q&A-style seminar that will enlighten and inform the rose grower within you!
