Moments

Colleen Mitchell  was honored for her time served as a member of the Emporia Board of Education.  Mitchell joined the Board in 2015.

Village Elementary has been nominated for a Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase Schools award for the 2017-2018 school year by the Flippen Group. One year ago, school administrators began an initiative to transform the campus into an emotionally safe and relationally connected place for students, staff, and parents to come together with a love for learning.

Capital Improvement Campaign & Facilities Study
The board reviewed a proposed timeline for a capital improvement campaign and facilities study that would begin in February and run through the spring of 2019. Superintendent Kevin Case and Assistant Superintendent Rob Scheib explained that the process would include a facility needs assessment and staff and community involvement.

Recruitment & Retention Report
The board reviewed teacher recruitment trends over the past three years and new-hire retention rates. Assistant Superintendent Kelly Bolin also shared data on teacher turnover the past three years and reasons educators are leaving the district. The primary reasons are retirement, leaving the profession, and relocating outside of Emporia. This data will allow us to begin hiring teachers early.
