Dear Families,
At our February 9, 2017 All School Meeting we shared with you the challenges faced by our school because of the unexpected cuts in funding from the State of Missouri. Unfortunately reductions in funding have continued and we must make very difficult choices if we are to continue our summer school program.
As always, our summer school program will be free. However, after months of budget review and evaluating ridership patterns, we have decided to change our transportation services for summer school in two ways:
- Eliminate the morning bus; the evening bus will run as it has in previous years. We will continue providing transportation for students who are attending Y-Care from the Oak campus to the Cherry campus.
- Extend the ridership-eligibility radius to three or more miles around each campus. In other words, if you live three or more miles from either Cherry or Oak you will be eligible for free transportation. With these changes we will save approximately $65,000 in costs this summer alone.
You will receive an email with the summer school and re-enrollment forms on Thursday. We wanted to send you this information separately so that you would not be surprised with the transportation changes on the forms.
At this point we are undecided on whether or not there will be changes to the transportation services offered during the school year. However, as soon as we have a final decision, we will contact our families.
