Anat Hoffman Reception & Discussion
From the Back of the Bus to the Top of the Agenda
March 23 at 7:30 PM with reception at 7 PM
Washington Hebrew Congregation ( 3935 Macomb Street NW)
Anat Hoffman, Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC), will discuss the most recent developments on segregation and exclusion of women in Israel as a result of increased demands for more modesty in the public sphere in order to adjust to religious standards. The exclusion of women "for God's sake" has become a litmus test for the infiltration of ultra-Orthodox norms into state definitions of religious requirements in the public sphere and exclusion and looks at the remaining challenges in this area. Hoffman is one of Israel's leading human rights activists working toward gender, religious, racial and ethnic equality.
