From Static Text to Digital Next
The Assessment & Curriculum activity has been hard at work completing the set of free digital textbooks for social studies which will be released to districts across the state this fall. They are device neutral, open source, and will cover all of K-12 SS. Come learn about the project, see the progress of the prototypes, and learn how to use it in the classroom! This session will be our first official preview of our HS World History offering.

Hack This Book! Put the "Open" in your MI Open Book
With the MI Open Book project coming to a close, come experience firsthand how to make it the last SS book you'll ever need. Whether you're editing in Microsoft Word or iBooks Author, be prepared to leave knowing exactly how to "Hack this book!" The perfect session for those who are ready to "Open" their books.

"Open" The World of Interactive SS with MI Open Book
It's one thing to have a digital SS text, it's another to teach with it. Learn and explore many different ways of teaching with open resources such as the MI Open Book Project. From getting it into your kids hands to "Opening" up the world - and everything in between. This session will be lead by teachers who have been using the MI Open Book Materials and will be a great session for those who want to figure out how to use it in their classes.

MIDataHubMichigan Data Hub Updates

Career Cruising Integrated  with the
MI  Data Hub
Career Cruising has created an API connector for the Michigan Data Hub and has completed the certification process. They are now listed on our Connected Systems page as certified along with Bright Arrow Alert and USA Scheduler. The connector currently populates Career Cruising with student, school, schedule and transcript information on a scheduled basis. We will be working with Career Cruising further on transfer of course requests for scheduling and eventually portfolio information. Please contact us at support@midatahub.org
if your district is interested in implementing this connector.

Over 100 Districts Live on the Data Hubs
We are pleased to say that we have 102 districts live with data in the Michigan Data Hub, and that number is growing daily. We are seeing the most progress with MISTAR and PowerSchool Districts. Skyward integration is a little more involved due to the need to configure an ExComm server, but we have several Skyward districts integrated and more in process. SunGard eSchoolPlus has a basic file-based integration in place and we are working out a few final bugs in the Synergy integration. Finally, Infinite Campus is working on their connector and we hope to begin testing sometime later this spring for full use in the fall.

We are working on getting Data Hub Support Specialists lined up to work with districts who are signed up, but please submit a ticket to support@midatahub.org if you would like to expedite that process.

Earn 26 SCECHs by Participating in the
EduPath MOOC!
Must Register by March 24, 2017!

If you have ever participated in an online course, or even if you haven't but wanted to give it a try, EduPaths is offering a FREE ONLINE COURSE, or a "Massive Open Online Course."

A MOOC is completely online. It includes short modules, discussion forums, individual reflections and an opportunity to put into practice what you have learned!

A MOOC can be accessed from anywhere, anytime, with any device.

A MOOC allows you to participate at your comfort level. We have the following participant levels -

Discover Level - I just want to observe; check things out and see how they go.
Explore Level - I want to participate some; I want to learn and familiarize myself with the content in the course.
Apply Level - I see the benefit and will participate; I want to learn and make use of content within my own learning environment.
Model Level  - I want to learn, demonstrate use of and show others how to apply the content within their own learning environment.

insightINSIGHT Versions
This article has been taken from the
March 16, 2017 issue of Spotlight on Student Assessment & Accountability

Any INSIGHT client installed for WIDA will also work for M-STEP, MI-Access, the Early Literacy and Mathematics Benchmarks, and the Michigan science pilot assessment. The configuration file will need to be updated to point to the M-STEP TSM. Instructions are in the Technology User Guide on eDIRECT (https:// mi.drcedirect.com). One INSIGHT client can point to both M-STEP and WIDA TSMs, in which case the student would, after opening INSIGHT, click Michigan Online Assessments rather than WIDA.
