Promoting and Serving the Best Interest of Women's Golf in South Carolina

Childs to take the helm of the WSCGA starting May 15th

We are happy to announce that Clarissa Childs will be joining the WSCGA as the new Executive Director, effective May 15, 2017!

Clarissa brings a strong presence to the WSCGA, with experience in fundraising and promotion, team building, and maintaining positive working relationships with the public and the local business community.

Clarissa has been the Head Women's Golf Coach at Newberry College since 2012.  During her time at Newberry, her team won both the 2012 and 2013 SAC Conference Championship, both team and individual, and she was the SAC Conference Coach of the Year for both 2012-2013 and 2014-2015.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Clarissa was a four time all-SEC player for the golf team and one of USC's most decorated women golfers ever!

Clarissa has been a professional golfer for 20 years, playing on both the LPGA and the Duramed Futures Tour from 1997-2008. She started playing at the age of seven, "I took my first lesson and was hooked!" she exclaimed. "I love the challenge and the camaraderie of the game."

Leah Bohnen, the WSCGA President, stated "We are excited that she can take us to another level through expanding our  membership base, promoting  our tournaments, and increasing our exposure to the public." She added, "Clarissa will be a great fit with the WSCGA membership and she brings enthusiasm and a love of the game which she has played since she was a child. We look forward to her growing the WSCGA and expanding the services we can offer to our membership." Clarissa expanded, "I am so excited to work with an organization that promotes golf for all the ages. I look forward to meeting all the women that are a part of the WSCGA currently and helping their golf experience grow and mature."

Clarissa has expressed many great ideas for expansion to the WSCGA board, "Jennifer O'Brian has done an amazing job and will leave big shoes to fill. I am looking forward to continue and grow the programs she has started in the WSCGA. With my years of networking, I see growth on and off the golf course in our events, in our membership, and the Junior Golf Foundation."

When Clarissa is not doing something golf related she loves to cook and visit friends, no distance is too far.  "I enjoy rodeos, love my Gamecocks, and pretty much any sporting event! I have two dogs Cheyann and Blackjack that are truly special. I am simple but always up for an adventure."

The WSCGA office will be relocating to Columbia, where Clarissa is a resident.
