SOCIAL CONNECTION IN A FRAGMENTED WORLD

Parking is available west of the building, east of the building in the Commonwealth Stadium parking lot and on the street.
We would like to invite our members, partners and supporters to join us as we look at the work of the past year and provide updates on our current projects. There will also be opportunities to network and make new connections, so we hope you can join us.
Social Connection in a Fragmented World
We are pleased to welcome City of Edmonton Councillor Scott McKeen and Michael Phair as our guest speakers. The issue of urban isolation prompted Councillor McKeen to launch a Council initiative aimed at raising awareness of the value of connection to a supportive community as a way to address stress, depression, loneliness and isolation. Michael Phair has been championing isolation reduction in the LGBTQ seniors' community for several years. This work has focused on creating a supportive community which is inclusive and welcoming.
Join us as these two gentlemen reflect on where they see promise in reduction of isolation and what that means for Edmonton seniors.

OUTREACH SUPPORT WORKER
GEF Seniors Housing
The Outreach Support Worker will be required to work with seniors to identify their service needs, liaise with other social service providers and support seniors in accessing the necessary services and resources to improve their quality of life.
Experience/Education:
- Diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Human Ecology
- 2 - 4 years' work experience an asset
- Experience working with seniors, families or groups is an asset
Other Requirements:
- Strong customer service skills including the ability to interact with seniors in a respectful manner
- Ability to work collaboratively across organizational groups
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Knowledge of and ability to access social supports and services available to seniors an asset
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office
- Must have vehicle and valid driver's license
- Undergo a criminal records check
The competition will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

Sylvia loves teaching and sharing her love of paper crafting. She uses a variety of techniques, including die cutting, stamping, digital images, embossing, watercolouring, chalking, and painting. As of 2016, there are an estimated 564,000 Canadians living with dementia plus about 25,000 new cases diagnosed every year. By 2031, that number is expected to rise to 937,000, an increase of 66 per cent. You will learn (1) the difference between dementia and Alzheimer's disease, (2) practical tips to help you and those with the disease have a better quality of life, and (3) how to prevent the disease.
