Dear Future Ohio State Student,

Greetings from the Office of International Affairs at The Ohio State University! We are looking forward to meeting you this spring, and our International Student team has put together some resources to help you prepare for your arrival in Columbus, Ohio. Over the next few weeks, you will receive additional information that will cover 11 important steps to take before and upon your arrival at Ohio State. This is email number two out of the six emails you will receive.
STEP 4: MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT HOUSING
We strongly recommend that students - all international undergraduates, including transfer students - who qualify and want on-campus housing should apply as early as possible and complete a housing contract. The availability of rooms in the residence halls is quite limited, especially single rooms, and most rooms for new students accommodate more than two people. The cost of housing varies by the type of room and the meal plan chosen. Move-in day is Monday, June 5, 2017.

Before you sign a contract to live on campus, be sure that you read the contract thoroughly and that you want on-campus housing. The housing contract is for the length of the summer term.

Note: The deadline to cancel a housing contract is
June 1, 2017 University Housing can be contacted at housing@osu.edu and by phone at 614-292-8266.

Temporary Housing

Students with Ohio State Housing Contracts

University Housing offers temporary or "early arrival" housing to students who have signed contracts. Students who need temporary housing should contact University Housing directly to discuss a move-in date. Students who sign up for temporary housing will be able to move into their summer room assignments early, paying $35 a day until their contract begins on move-in day, Monday, June 5, 2017. Instructions on how to make a reservation for temporary housing and pay in advance will be emailed to students' Ohio State email accounts as part of their housing assignment email. Questions can be answered by calling 614-292-8266 or by emailing housing@osu.edu.

Students without Ohio State Housing Contracts

On-campus temporary housing is not available to students without contracts with University Housing. You may be able to find temporary housing at a local hotel or motel, or through some of the Ohio State's international student organizations. Please refer to Temporary Housing for more information.
STEP 5: TRANSPORTATION TO CAMPUS
Ohio State's main campus is located less than 10 miles from John Glenn Columbus International Airport, and taxi service from the airport to campus is relatively quick and inexpensive. Additionally, COTA, the Central Ohio Transit Authority, operates a bus that runs from the airport to downtown Columbus, where you can transfer buses to Ohio State's campus. To plan your trip ahead of time, visit the COTA website.
