What is Wrong with Being Complacent?

How would you define

complacent?

One of the best definitions of COMPLACENT I have seen is

"...at ease, comfortable and unaware of impending danger"

TWO AREAS OF

"impending danger"

1-Terrorism

The threat of terror attacks in the USA are real; I believe terror cells abound throughout our land. GRADUALISM is factual and as evidenced in recent terror attacks. The San Bernardino attack took time to unfold, but became a reality- that's gradualism. I strongly believe plans for more attacks are taking place daily all around the world. To be

COMPLACENT about this issue is unthinkable...there is IMPENDING DANGER lurking everywhere...this is not a time to be complacent

2- The Complacent in Church

Even more troubling is the COMPLACENT

attitude of believers to be silent about their faith in Jesus Christ . After all the Gospel of Jesus Christ is GOOD NEWS not bad ! In my five year study of Psychology never once did it show me how to be forgiven of my sins of thought, word and deed and how to have eternal life....plus the importance of growing in grace ...in order to have abundant life here on earth.

There are so few that go to church who embrace their faith in Jesus enough to tell someone how they have been born again through faith in Him

MY RECOMMENDATIONS for both challenges

1- My recommendations regarding terrorism in America:

-Fervently pray for our leaders and their wisdom to handle the overwhelming problem of terrorism

-Don't let anybody tell you there is not a major problem

-As best we can do our part by letting authorities of any known suspicious activity

-Get active as you are led in this battle

AFTER SAN BERNARDINO...

"I Blew it!"

A lady church friend of ours who attends a book club with Tudi encountered a very suspicious situation at a popular large outlet mall...

the early evening after the San Bernardino horror

When she arrived at the mall she encountered...

-Four Middle Eastern men walked next to her down a corridor to a rest room section for men on one side and women on the other...she was nervous because there was no one else around

-When she left the rest room they were not visible

-Our friend went to the shop she intended to go to

- When she finished shopping she went to her car in the large parking lot surrounding the 200 store outlet mall and found the men near her car spreading out their prayer blankets on the asphalt

-she became very nervous and drove away quickly

How I blew it...

I told a police officer of 20 years (now an air marshall) the story...he asked me what I did about it.

HE SAID-

"YOU SHOULD HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE LOCAL POLICE BECAUSE IT WAS DEFINITELY UNUSUAL!"

Since then I have often thought about the GRADUALISM threat that took place in San Bernardino and is taking place in many areas of America

2-THE COMPLACENT IN CHURCH...

HOWEVER...

I CAN and AM DOING SOMETHING PROACTIVE about the "COMPLACENCY" OF BELIEVERS in sharing the GOOD NEWS

My recommendations regarding witness complacency:

-Repent for being complacent about your witness...read again

Rev 3:14-22.. being lukewarm upsets the Lord...

*heart felt repentance will take a heavy load of guilt off your shoulders

-Get trained how to more effectively share your precious faith (read IF WE ARE THE LIGHT, WHY IS AMERICA SO DARK?)

-Experience "Witness Breakthrough" by becoming a

John 3 :16 witness...compelled by love vs. duty

-Learn to clearly and humbly proclaim your testimony in Jesus Christ in less than 2 minutes

-Leave the results to God

-Pray and look for God's open doors daily

APPLICATION...EARLIER THIS WEEK

By looking for God's open doors, I had the privilege of sharing my faith with A CORPORATE FLOORING EXECUTIVE, A MUSICIAN, A STUDENT, AND A GOLF COURSE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

In each witness encounter I tried to be very clear, humble and loving after intently listening to where they were coming from... that simply followed my asking a few meaningful questions like

What do you do for a living?

How did you get into the business?

etc

As I listened I fell in love with their soul...and shared my faith in Jesus Christ briefly (in less than 2 minutes)

What is wrong with complacency...everything...a terrible way to live!

OUR OPTIONS REGARDING COMPLACENCY:

-Do nothing and don't think about it...BAD

-Ask God for wisdom what you can do about it...GOOD

-Read endlessly, talk endlessly...but never do much

just continue to complain and pontificate your opinions...VERY BAD

Better yet...

A CURE FOR COMPLACENCY...

GROW IN YOUR FAITH by

telling others simply and humbly THE GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ...AND WHAT HE MEANS TO YOU...the Prince of Peace!
