A man had too much to drink at a party. On his way home, he lost his wallet. A policeman found him searching for it under a streetlight. The policeman joined him in the search for the wallet. Ten minutes passed. They still did not find the wallet..
The policeman asked, "Are you sure that you lost your wallet under this streetlight?" The man replied, "No, I lost it over there." He pointed to a place in the darkness. The policeman scratched his head and asked, "Then why are we looking here?" The man replied, "Because there's more light here."
The revelation of Jesus Christ gives us light for our search for the meaning of life. Into the darkness of sin the Savior came, Emmanuel, God with us! Robert Browning in his poem "Death in the Desert", wrote,
"I say, the acknowledgement of God in Christ
Accepted by thy reason, solves for thee,
All questions in the earth and out of it,
And has so far advanced thee to be wise."
I hope to see you Sunday! In the 8:30 service the text is James 5: 7 - 10, and the sermon is "Prepare....and Be Patient." In the 10:30 service our choir will present, "A Child is Born" by John Purifoy. Why not come and spend the morning?
On December 24, Christmas Eve, we are adjusting the regular Sunday routine and the regular Christmas Eve schedule since Christmas Eve falls on Sunday. There will be no 8:30 service. Traditional morning worship will be at 10:30, our Annual Spontaneous Christmas Pageant is at 4, and Carols, Candles, and Communion will be at 7. Since the services are all different why not plan to attend all three?
From the Heart,
Russell

MESSAGE FROM RUTHANNE:
We will celebrate Jerry's life on January 6, 2018 at 3 P.M. at the United Methodist Church of
Evergreen located on 3757 South Ponderosa Drive, 80439. I tell you this to ask that you pray over those who will attend this celebration for God's peace and comfort to dwell over and protect each one. I also will ask that you turn to the one nearest you and give them a hug, because there are never enough of those in this troubled world.
I would like for memorials to go to Mount Evans home health care and hospice located at 3081 Bergen Peak Drive, Evergreen, CO 80439.
Since contact with you may be impossible, I am sending you a virtual hug and praying that you will be blessed with the love of Christ this Christmas and the joy of knowing that He loves us best!

Great news for you and for our church!!
You could give some of your IRA dollars to support God's Kingdom before the end of 2017. A few years ago Congress made permanent the opportunity to make a charitable gift from an IRA to a qualifying non-profit. You can convert your required minimum distribution (RMD) to a charitable distribution by rolling over part of an IRA to UMCE. In doing this you avoid paying any additional tax.
You must be over age 70 ½. These tax-free gifts can be up to $100,000 and satisfy the required minimum distribution (RMD). All you need to do is to contact your IRA custodian and request an amount be transferred to UMCE or to the Rocky Mountain United Methodist Foundation for the benefit of UMCE. This would be a great way to save on taxes and complete your pledge, increase your gift or create a new gift, at the same time!

SHARING OUR CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS
Facilitator: Dr. Lorna Idol
Many people have established family and/or personal traditions for the Christmas season. We will gather together in the Spirit of Christmas and share the traditions we treasure. We will talk about our own childhood traditions and how we have continued with those or changed them to benefit our own families or our own lifestyles. We might also be adding to our own Christmas treasure chests as we learn how others in our Christian family celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ as we munch on Christmas cookies and drink our hot chocolate.
