SAPCC Gets A New Home on February 1st!

As SAPCC's office moves down the street, we may experience some phone and internet connectivity issues. This next week we'll work on moving all of our office items over to the new place, so you can find us there (2395 University Ave. Suite 300 Ebeginning on February 1st, 2016! Stay tuned for office hours that you can drop by.

We will host staff in that office as well as our monthly Environment and Transportation meetings. We will continue to host our Land Use and Board meetings at Jennings because they have enough space to house the larger meetings.

We owe a huge thank you to Langford Park Recreation Center for being willing to store and moving some of our miscellaneous items that won't fit in our new space!

Thank You to Our Donors!

As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the St. Anthony Park Community Council relies heavily on individual donors to make our organization run! Like other 501(c)3 organizations, we apply for grant opportunities to fund our work from institutions like local foundations and the City of St. Paul. Our generous individual donors from this fall and winter helped us reach a new benchmark in fundraising. Thank you to those of you who gave to support our organization's work. We are looking forward to another good year in 2016!
Honor Roll Awardees

This year, our neighborhood has two awardees of the City's Honor Roll: Betty Wheeler and Daniel Sarasti.

A longtime community member, Betty has been an immense asset to our community. Betty goes above and beyond in her service to our community, especially in regards to environmental and transportation issues. From single handedly securing an air quality monitoring station in South St. Anthony Park to spearheading grant proposals, Betty offers support and leadership on a wide variety of community projects. Betty not only leads on community initiatives, she builds community through her both passionate and inclusive attitude.

Daniel embodies community engagement. Whenever the neighborhood needs more hands on deck, Daniel volunteers first. From helping to plan rain gardens and medians, to attending all community functions, Daniel makes sure he stands up to help on any project.

If you want to attend the Honor Roll dinner to support Betty and Daniel and all the other Honor Roll awardees, you can buy a ticket for $10 here or pay $15 at the door.
Luther Seminary Property Sale to HealthPartners

Press Release from Luther Seminary:

HealthPartners to purchase land from Luther Seminary. Site will be home to a new HealthPartners Como Clinic

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Luther Seminary announced today that it has reached an agreement to sell land to HealthPartners. The land, which is across the street and on the north side of HealthPartners Como Clinic, will be the new location for the current clinic.

The land purchase is part of Luther Seminary's plan for long-term development. These plans include a senior housing project with 49 units that will be built by Ecumen and other renovations to the campus.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with two well-respected organizations," said Robin Steinke, Luther Seminary president. "We are excited about how their work will enhance both the Luther Seminary campus and the surrounding communities."

Como Clinic opened in 1957 as the first clinic for what was then Group Health. It was a new model that provided both medical care and health care financing. The model focused on prevention and maintaining health as a way to reduce medical expenses and make care more affordable. In 1992, Group Health merged with MedCenters to become HealthPartners.

"Como Clinic represents the roots of our organization, and we are pleased to partner with Luther Seminary and Ecumen on an investment that will continue to serve the community for decades to come," said Dr. Beth Averbeck, HealthPartners senior medical director for primary care.

The land deal is HealthPartners' first step in a multi-year process that will start with extensive
community engagement and a thoughtful design phase. Groundbreaking is expected in three to four years and construction will take an estimated 18 months. The current clinic will continue to offer all services until the new facility opens. The new building is expected to be roughly the same size as the  current clinic and will offer similar services including primary, specialty and urgent care, dental and pharmacy.
