MEDITATION

Cantor Sharon Bernstein

The mission of the San Francisco Department of the Environment is to provide solutions that advance climate protection and enhance quality of life for all San Franciscans. Our environmental vision is expressed simply as "0-50-100 Roots" - we must achieve 0 waste, take at least 50% of our trips sustainably, and use 100% renewable energy while reducing consumption While those goals are about being less harmful to the planet, our "Roots" goal is about healing the planet by protecting nature's diversity, planting trees and promoting soil health to absorb carbon and restore natural systems. The Department's ambitious plan to achieve our vision and ensure we are meeting the needs of all San Franciscans includes strengthening community resilience, promoting healthy communities and ecosystems, eliminating waste, amplifying community action and ultimately securing a carbon free and healthy future for our children.

Debbie Raphael, Director

Debbie Raphael is the Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment and believes that cities can take bold action to address environmental harm. A scientist by training and public servant by profession, Debbie has spent more than twenty years working in government to ensure that everyone has an equal right to a safe and healthy environment. As Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment, Debbie sees herself as both a leader and a collaborator around environmental issues. She works in close partnership with other City agencies and community stakeholders to implement San Francisco's ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals while advancing policies and programs that are inclusive of diverse communities and build on the City's innovative and pioneering spirit. Debbie was appointed by Mayor Edwin M. Lee in 2014 and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master's Degree in Physiological Plant Ecology from UCLA.

FAITH JOURNEY

The Rev. Will Scott, Program Director

Make a Difference by Donating to

THE IMMIGRATION DEFENSE FUND
__________________________________

All across our nation, communities of faith are rising to the occasion to support vulnerable immigrants who have been singled out and live in fear of deportation. Throughout our City, a multitude of community and faith-based efforts have mobilized to respond to these threats in significant ways.

The San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) created THE IMMIGRATION DEFENSE FUND (Fund), a program supported by our City's Mayor, as a new vehicle to encourage and support wide private engagement and investment in these critical issues of immigrant support.

Contributions to the Fund will be granted to recognized and viable community, academic, faith-based and other nonprofit organizations, with a proven track record, that provide protective and legal services to immigrants; "Know Your Rights," Rapid Response" and "Pathways to Citizenship" workshops and trainings; and educational and related support to those registered in the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In addition to general support, donors may designate that their contribution be directed specifically to one of these priority categories.

As the San Francisco Interfaith Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, contributions to The Immigration Defense Fund are tax deductible.

Wire transfer donations may be made by contacting

Immigration Now: What You Need to Know, What You Need to Do

Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Grace Cathedral (Gresham Hall)
1100 California Street, San Francisco

Join us for a workshop on immigration where experts deeply immersed in the issues will help us navigate current policies on immigration and discover the concrete, practical ways that we can help people caught up in them.
Professor Bill Ong Hing, Professor Heidi Ho and the Rev. Deborah Lee will discuss the latest developments on immigration and introduce people from the community struggling under the new climate who will share their immigration stories.
Hing serves on the faculty at the University of San Francisco (USF) School of Law and is Director of the Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic. Ho is also faculty at the USF School of Law and assistant director of the Academic Support Program (and wife of Grace Cathedral Dean Malcolm Clemens Young). Lee is Senior Program Director of Immigration with the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity.
"Immigration Now" is being presented in partnership by Grace Cathedral, Calvary Presbyterian Church, Congregation Emanu-El, Congregation Sherith Israel, Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Pacifica Institute, the San Francisco Interfaith Council and the University of San Francisco School of Law.
If immigration policies and practices, what America stands for and human dignity matter to you, please join us.
