 HOLY WEEK WORSHIP

Maundy Thursday, April 13th:  Agape Feast and Worship at 6pm
Reservations Requested

Good Friday, April 14th:  Worship, 7pm at The Chapel in the Highlands
We worship on this holy night with our friends from Broadview UCC and St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church.  The Chapel in the Highlands is accessible through the guard gate off of 145th (tell the guard you are going to the chapel) and follow the signs.

Easter Sunday, April 16th:  Pancake Breakfast and Flowering of the Crosses
                                                    Festival Worship, 10am
Coffee's on and the "secret pancake recipe" will be put into use once again as we gather for breakfast (bring your family and neighbors and friends!)  Donations benefit Camp Lutherwood.
You are also encouraged to bring loose fresh flowers from your yard or the store to flower the crosses for the Easter procession.
Our Alleluias ring out (literally!) and we celebrate the feast of the resurrection!

CREATION CARE SUNDAY - APRIL 23rd
Thanks to the leadership of our Creation Care/Environmental Stewardship team, chaired by Dorothy Lundahl, we will give thanks for God's good Creation in a special Creation Care liturgy on Sunday, April 23rd.  Everyone is encouraged to consider the impact we make on the earth and how we might soften that impact, even in our worship.  So, carpool, walk, or ride your bike to worship if you'd like.

WELCOME HARBOR CHURCH
On April 23rd, Harbor Church, a Christian Reformed Congregation, will begin worshiping at 9:00am in the Fellowship Hall.  We are delighted to welcome these sisters and brothers in Christ!  Watch for future opportunities together for learning, service, and fellowship.

HOUSING NEWS!
Final plans for the affordable housing have been submitted to the city just ahead of a public comment forum in either May 1st or May 15th (the City of Seattle is having some scheduling challenges!)  But LMLC is invited to a first look on Sunday, April 30th, at 9am in the Fireside Room.   Until then, our prayers remain with those families and individuals who have no shelter.

From Pastor Julie -
Beloved Community,

This evening I was watching the local news; the relatively new weather forecaster had included Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday on her forecast calendar.  She even mentioned those dates.  I was rather surprised, particularly since it was Passover when I was watching, which was NOT included on her calendar.

I have a suspicion that she moved here from elsewhere in the country:  perhaps the Midwest, as she did not have a southern accent.  But it is true that in other areas and regions, Holy Week impacts the culture (although it clearly has no impact on the weather.)  There are no sporting events or school sponsored activities.  Most schools close for Good Friday.  Many stores close or close early.

In the beautiful diversity that is our country, I am not a proponent of culturally keeping Holy Week.  I am, however, entirely in favor of those who follow Christ finding a way to keep it in the course of our lives.  There are many worship opportunities and if you cannot make it to the ones we have scheduled, I encourage you to find one elsewhere at another time of day.  If that doesn't work, perhaps you can spend some intentional time with the readings for the day or reflecting on the emphases of each day.

Because we know how the story ends, it is hard not to jump from Palm Sunday to Easter.  But the grace...the amazing grace....of Jesus' death for the sake of a sinful world....lies in between.

See you in church,
Pastor Julie+

Sunday's Scripture Readings:
First Reading
Jeremiah 31:1-6
This passage makes clear that God's final word is always "Yes." Because God's love is everlasting, God always remains faithful. Ancient Israel is assured that it will be rebuilt and have plentiful crops. The people of God too will ultimately be reunited.

SecondReading
Colossians 3:1-4
Easter means new life for us as it first meant new life for Christ. His resurrection reshapes the entire focus and motivation for our lives, since we are now hidden with the risen Christ in God.

Gospe l
John 20:1-18
John's gospel describes the confusion and excitement of the first Easter: the stone is moved, disciples race back and forth, and angels speak to a weeping woman. Then, Jesus himself appears.
