Vice President's Report
March 2017
Top 'o the Mornin' to all you folks with a wee bit o' Irish in yeah.
Just because the calendar says that spring is just around the corner, the weatherman begs to differ, and I have not had a chance to do any flying outside for many weeks. Thank goodness for the indoor flying that we did back in early February at the Milford Youth Center. We have one more session scheduled for April 7, from 8 until 11 PM. If you come by and ask nicely, I can set you up with a Night Vapor in one of our club transmitters. No excuses unless you no longer want to drive at night. This will be the last indoor flying night at MYC for the season, but I have heard some whispering by other club members that we might try and find additional indoor flying sites. The turnout for these indoor flying events has been very satisfying, so there is definitely many interested pilots who enjoy this venue.
I was able to do some flying off the snow with my float planes in early February. At that time, the access road was fairly navigable as long as you had a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Unfortunately, I suffered a total radio failure of the high-wing trainer floatplane, and it went in about thirty feet short of the river. I was able to recover it, but the damage to the airframe was extensive and I was only able to salvage the motor, fuel tank, the servos and other electronics. Fortunately, I got one of my flying buddies to give up an old, unused high wing trainer plane and I am getting close to having it ready in about a week.
The February meeting was our key swap night, and all who attended the meeting got new keys. I'll bring the key case with me for next meeting, intending to swap keys with any who were unable to attend the February meeting.
I am still working on my Winter Project Night entry, and I hope that you will do the same. Even if your plane is not ready for its maiden voyage, you can still bring it as a show-and-tell item.
Respectfully, John Holcomb, Vice President MMAC.
