SAP Community Garden Offers Fresh Produce to Local Residents

LydiaPlace and the SAP Community Garden have come together in a partnership to help address a need for fresh produce in our neighborhood. SAP currently does not have a food shelf. So for decades, the Community Garden has donated the food generated from two plots as well as contributions from gardeners to the Keystone food shelf. These generous donations, usually totaling over 500 pounds of food a year, never had a place to go to feed our own community members. This year for the first time, Seal Hi-Rise, a local low Section 8 housing facility, and Lydia's Place, a collective worship community, have worked with the community garden in order to deliver fresh produce to lower income residents in St. Anthony Park.

This program has seen great success. The two plots that regularly delivered to midway now go to support local residents, and Lydia's Place hosts a garden plot that community members from low income housing in South St. Anthony Park can help cultivate to share in community building and food education.

A huge thank you to our community garden partners, especially Sherm Eagles and Sue Connor, community garden volunteers, Lydia's Place leader, Scott Simmons, and the residents at Seal Hi-Rise who have opened up their community to a partnership with us.
