StoryBlocks Makes Waves in SAP

SAPCC had the opportunity to partner with the Friendly Streets Initiative and a Macalester College Chuck Green Fellow Mike Curran to work on an incredible project shining light on SAP residents, businesses, and enterprises. This project, StoryBlocks, empowers community members to envision infrastructure changes in our neighborhood. StoryBlocks engages our neighbors to tell their story; to add our voices to the story and build equity in our community through storytelling. Mike met with SAPCC staff to learn about the community and begin to build connections to our residents, students, and employees here. He worked with Avalon Charter School, Seal Hi-Rise, LydiaPlace and the Dow Art Gallery to begin to tell the story of our neighborhood and empower our residents.

SAP has an active presence in the StoryBlocks project, along with other St. Paul neighborhoods like Hamline-Midway and Union Park. Hear our stories here. Read more about the project here
Come Join Our Board!

Do you live in St. Anthony Park? Do you want to shape changes in our neighborhood? Are you interested in enhancing a progressive and equitable vision for our community? Do you want to be a part of a dynamic nonprofit organization? We'd love to have you! We are looking for representatives from both North and South St. Anthony Park (District 12).

As a board member you would support the overarching goals of our organization and weigh in on pertinent community issues at our once monthly meetings (every other Thursday of the month from 7:00-9:00pm). Board members join one of our four standing committees to continue the work they feel passionately about (including: Equity, Environment, Transportation, and Land Use). Our Board finalizes and approves all of the initiatives of each committee in addition to work in building strategy for our organization. Among other things, our Board developed a Strategic Plan for 2015-2020. Looking into the future, the Board will work on developing our Ten Year District Plan.

Applications are now open! Apply by October 13th for consideration in our November elections! November elections will occur Nov. 2-6 both in-person at a few neighborhood locations and through online voting.

Take your lunch over there, toss a frisbee, or work on your laptop (while charging at the solar charging station). If you haven't yet, check it out!

Changes Coming to Recycling - Stay Tuned

Eureka Recycling was awarded the five year contract for collection and processing of recyclable materials for single-family homes, small multifamily buildings (up to 11 units), and multifamily building 12 units and over.

The new contract includes the move to wheeled, lidded carts and a change in collection location; "carts will be collected where the resident's trash is collected, for many this means a move to the alley".

You can expect to see carts delivered beginning just after Thanksgiving ( Nov. 28). Collection in the carts will begin January 2017. The City will organize drop-off locations for blue bins if you don't want to keep yours for personal use.
