Jeff Bauman describes the chaos and terror of the Boston Marathon Bombing, his grueling rehabilitation, and his attempts to reconcile the world's admiration with his own guilt and frustration. His story asserts that the terrorists accomplished nothing with their act of cowardice and shares with the entire world what Boston Strong really means.

Artists from the Western Ave Studios and Lofts were moved by Jeff Bauman's perseverance. They were inspired to create artwork that honors the strength of the victims and community in the aftermath of the tragic marathon bombing. The art will be up all April long, come down and see the exhibit!

Eric Moskowitz, reporter for the Boston
Globe, shares his experience working on the Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of the Marathon bombing and its aftermath. He will take us inside the newsroom that day and share what it is like to follow the long term stories of the survivors.

 Join us for an evening of original poetry by all ages. We ask our
poets to register in advance. If you wish to just come to listen and enjoy, you do not have to sign up in advance.
Our poets are of all ages: Our youngest poet was about 5; our oldest poet spent the evening of her 90th birthday at one of our Slams! The rest fall in between giving us a rich variety of perspectives on the human condition. Spread the words!

The Children's Department is excited to welcome our new guests....caterpillars! We'll be watching them transform into butterflies throughout the month, then releasing them outside when they're ready to fly. When Mother Nature cooperates, we'll host a butterfly craft and then gather outside to watch our new friends fly away to continue their life cycle (date to be determined, dependent on weather conditions and speed of metamorphosis).
School vacation week will be a blast in the Children's Room! Featuring spring crafts, visits from superhero friends, STEM programming, and Earth Day activities, we've got plenty to keep you busy if you're stay-cationing! Check out our Events Calendar for more details.
Join us in April and May for the Reading Without Walls Challenge! Designed by children's author & National Ambassador of Young People's Literature Gene Luen Yang, this reading challenge is designed to encourage readers to step outside of their comfort zone and into the pages of a book, promoting diversity, new ideas, and new experiences. Children up to age 12 are invited to take on the challenge starting Saturday, April 1st. Read three types of books and earn different badges for each one: (1) a book about a character who doesn't look or live like you; (2) a book about a topic you don't know much about; and (3) a book in a format you don't usually read (picturebook, graphic novel, audiobook, book in verse, etc.).
