Jeff Bauman describes the chaos and terror of the Boston Marathon Bombing, his grueling rehabilitation, and his attempts to reconcile the world's admiration with his own guilt and frustration. His story asserts that the terrorists accomplished nothing with their act of cowardice and shares with the entire world what Boston Strong really means. Please RSVP  so  we can know what size crowd to expect. 

Saturday, 4/8 from 2pm-4pm
Artists from the Western Ave Studios and Lofts were moved by Jeff Bauman's perseverance. They were inspired to create artwork that honors the strength of the victims and community in the aftermath of the tragic marathon bombing.  The art will be up all April long, come down and see the exhibit! 
 
Sunday, 4/9 at 2pm
 
Roseann Sdoia, Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor will be here to talk about her new book, Perfect Strangers: Friendship, Strength, and Recovery After Boston's Worst Day.  Her story of recovery is about choosing joy and human connection over anger and resentment. It also features an unlikely but enduring friendship that grew out of the tragedy.
 
Eric Moskowitz, reporter for the Boston
 Globe, shares his experience working on the Pulitzer Prize winning coverage of the Marathon bombing and its aftermath. He will take us inside the newsroom that day and share what it is like to follow the long term stories of the survivors.

Kerry Ann Mendez is dedicated to teaching the art of low-maintenance perennial gardening and landscaping. Registration required.

genealogy club logo The Chelmsford Genealogy Club is an informal genealogy group for sharing of information and ideas. This meeting is part 1 of 2 on DNA and Genealogy by Dr. Sandra Murray.  The Genealogy club is open to all and meets the first Tuesday  of every month.

Stack of books The Friends seek books of all kinds in good condition including recent best sellers, fiction, non-fiction, children's books, paperbacks - as well as audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, maps, and local interest items. Drop-offs for the Friends of the Library book sale take place at the Gym at the rear of the Town Offices Building,  50 Billerica Road, Chelmsford.

Join us for an evening of original poetry by all ages. We ask our poets to register in advance. If you wish to just come to listen and enjoy, you do not have to sign up in advance.
 
Our poets are of all ages: Our youngest poet was about 5; our oldest poet spent the evening of her 90th birthday at one of our Slams! The rest fall in between giving us a rich variety of perspectives on the human condition. Spread the words!

The Library will be closed on Sunday, April 16th for Easter Sunday, and Monday, April 17th for Patriot's Day.

Global Road Warrior offers cultural analysis, basic practical language assistance, business insights, travel information, and traditional recipes for over 175 different countries. With your library card, it is free to access anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Click here to access our online databases!  While you're there, take a look at our other online offerings such as AtoZ Databases for finding addresses and phone numbers, Consumer Reports , and Rocket Languages for more in-depth language instruction. These and many of our other databases are available for free from home by using your library card!


Welcome to The MIC (Make It! Club), where you'll be able to make and take home an awesome DIY project, snack, or dessert each month. This month is our Mother's Day DIY Fest! Make a  mint chip lotion bar  and an  embroidered card  to give to your mom... or keep them for yourself!   Drop in while supplies last. Grades 4-8 and home-schooled teens welcome!

In this battle of creativity you will have 30 minutes to make an incredible creation out of candy and craft supplies for the chance to win big! Prizes will be awarded based on originality, most edible, and best overall. Every creation must contain at least one peepGrades 4-8 and home- schooled teens welcome!

The Children's Department is excited to welcome our new guests....caterpillars! We'll be watching them transform into butterflies throughout the month, then releasing them outside when they're ready to fly. When Mother Nature cooperates, we'll host a butterfly craft and then gather outside to watch our new friends fly away to continue their life cycle (date to be determined, dependent on weather conditions and speed of metamorphosis).
 
School vacation week will be a blast in the Children's Room! Featuring spring crafts, visits from superhero friends, STEM programming, and Earth Day activities, we've got plenty to keep you busy if you're stay-cationing! Check out our Events Calendar for more details.

 

Join us in April and May for the Reading Without Walls Challenge! Designed by children's author & National Ambassador of Young People's Literature Gene Luen Yang, this reading challenge is designed to encourage readers to step outside of their comfort zone and into the pages of a book, promoting diversity, new ideas, and new experiences. Children up to age 12 are invited to take on the challenge starting Saturday, April 1st. Read three types of books and earn different badges for each one: (1) a book about a character who doesn't look or live like you; (2) a book about a topic you don't know much about; and (3) a book in a format you don't usually read (picturebook, graphic novel, audiobook, book in verse, etc.).
