Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ~

What could be a better way to raise funds for a great cause than to dine, drink (a beverage of your choosing!) and sing hymns, all in a friendly atmosphere in a local restaurant? If you have not yet heard about the Beer & Hymns Sing- a spirited sing-a-long!- or had an opportunity to purchase tickets or invite a friend or neighbor to join you- do it NOW by clicking here!

Here are some interesting facts (or maybe folk-lore) when it comes to BEER... and faith and song. Believe it or not, they have been intertwined for centuries:

The Sumerians, who are credited with first fermenting beer, sang their recipes as hymns to Ninkasi, the god of beer.
The Vikings believed in Heiorun, a divine goat whose udder produced unlimited beer.
In the Christian tradition, monks throughout Europe nearly perfected the art of brewing beer in the Middle Ages in large part because beer was a more trustworthy - as in cleaner - beverage than water.
Not to be outdone by monks, Martin Luther's beloved Katie was esteemed for her skills as a beer maker.
A favorite beer quotation from Martin Luther, talking about the power of the Word to create the Reformation: "I simply taught, preached, and wrote God's Word; otherwise I did nothing. And while I slept, or drank Wittenberg beer with my friends Philip and Amsdorf, the Word so greatly weakened the papacy that no prince or emperor ever inflicted such losses upon it. I did nothing; the Word did everything" (LW 51:77).

Enough of the fun facts; this will be FUN with a purpose- a FUNdraiser for the Lakes Area Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) MobilePack. Mark Crea, CEO of FMSC will be our guest- sharing about the urgent need for food in the world and how FMSC facilitates getting food to those in need. FMSC partners with hundreds of relief organizations to ensure that over 99.7 percent of all packed meals reach the hungry . Crea's mission: The kids and families must know that they are loved, they are not forgotten, and they have worth.

Some FUN facts about FMSC: Since 2003, over 1.2 billion meals have been packed and distributed. Churches, businesses, community groups, and schools in more than 35 states have hosted food-packing events as a way to foster teamwork and unity while making a real difference in the fight to prevent and reverse malnutrition. FMSC provides guidance and logistics while local donors and volunteers provide funds and labor to pack the meals. For the past 11 consecutive years, FMSC has achieved a Charity Navigator four-star rating, placing it in the top 1 percent of more than 8,000 nationally rated charities for integrity and trustworthiness. More than 90 percent of total donations go directly to feeding kids.

The Lakes Area Feed My Starving Children MobilePack happens at Hosanna Lutheran Church April 20-22. Volunteer times will be available for sign up beginning Sunday, March 26 for key partners- which includes Hosanna!- and will be open to the general community beginning April 2. Lent Wednesday Services - 12pm & 6pm Services

March 1 - April 5

Mid-Week Lent Worship Services continue through April 5. We will focus our attention on Conversations With God: The Lord's Prayer. Most know it by heart, but do you really know what you are asking for in this mighty prayer that Jesus taught? Each week we will explore the Lord's Prayer to consider what it means in our daily lives. There is a service at noon, which is followed by a lunch and a service at 6pm with dinner from 5-6pm and education will follow each service on March 15, 22, 29 and April 5.

Fleece Blanket Cutting

March 23, 2017

Here at Hosanna, we have a tradition of giving graduating seniors a tie blanket that is tied by the Confirmation Students, so that they can bring them to college as a reminder of their church family. Before we can tie the blankets, we need to cut the fleece for them! So, if you know how to use a scissors, come join us on March 23, from 10am to noon in the Lakeside Room, and help us keep up this tradition!

Beer & Hymns - Get Your Tickets Before They Are Sold Out!

Come join with fellow lovers of church tradition... and well brewed beer! This is a fundraiser benefiting the 2017 Lakes Area Feed My Starving Children Mobile Pack at Hosanna. The Beer & Hymns will be taking place on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Stella's Neighborhood Grille from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Doors open at 6:30 PM. The sing will feature hymns sung by Charlie O and friends. Tickets are $10 in advance and can be bought online here, or will be $15 at the door, if there are still tickets available. Easter Flower Orders

Orders Due Sunday, April 2, 2017

We are now collecting Easter Flower Orders! You may order your choice of Asiatic Lilies, Calla Lilies, Easter Lilies (shown here), Gerbera Daisies and Hydrangeas, all in your choice of size and color. Once you order them, you can pick them up after the 10:30am service on Easter Sunday. You can order them online here, or by filling out a purple sheet in your bulletin on Sunday morning. Palm Sunday Youth Fundraising Breakfast

Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9, 2017

Come join the youth for breakfast on Palm Sunday! From 8am to 12pm the Youth will be serving breakfast in the Garden Chapel! All proceeds will be going toward Youth Ministries! We are still looking for people to help us prep on Saturday or Sunday morning, people that are willing to donate a breakfast item, people that are willing to serve food and people that are willing to clean up after the breakfast. If you are interested in helping in any of these ways, please contact Pastor Jen.

Palm Sunday Service - If Stones Could Talk

Sunday, April 9

April 9 at 9:00am and 10:30am in the Great Hall and will include special music, such as the choir, handbell choir and children's choir! If your child is interested in being a part of the Children's Choir, rehearsals will be every Wednesday night at 6:30 PM. A worship drama with a part for everyone! The Last Supper Reenactment

April 11-13, 2017

Tuesday, April 11 through Thursday, April 13 we will be having the 29th Annual Last Supper Reenactment in the Garden Chapel at 7:30pm. The rituals and blessings of a Passover Feast celebrating the Israelites' exodus from Egyptian slavery had been fixed for generations. This night would be different. Jesus added new language about love, betrayal, forgiveness and remembrance - A New Testament. Nothing would ever be the same. The day will start with a local mission (i.e. FMSC, Second Harvest, Birchwood Senior Living Center, Local Farming), then a sack lunch with devotion; followed up with a recreational activity (i.e. Waterpark, Movie Theater, Outdoor Game Day, Bowling, Trampoline & Climbing Wall parks.) Bring your own sack lunch!

Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Vacation Bible School in Partnership with Luther Crest Bible Camp

July 17 - 20, 2017

PRESCHOOL VBS- A perfect introduction to VBS. This program is perfect for preschoolers who aren't quite ready of for the full-day experience yet. Chocked full of songs, games, arts & crafts and so much more, VBS is a chance for our younger students to explore the Bible in a safe, fun environment.

ALL DAY VBS- is a Christ-centered experience for those who have finished Kindergarten through Sixth Grade bringing a taste of camping ministry to campers in a familiar setting. VBS is designed to introduce a Bible Camp experience to students without being away from home at night. It is a unique blend of Outdoor Ministry and Congregational Ministry. The Luther Crest Day Camp Staff bring their own enthusiasm, leadership, and teaching styles to Hosanna each day. *Scholarships available upon request.

Hospitality Team

We are currently looking for people that would be willing and excited to join a Hospitality Team! This would be a fabulous opportunity to get involved monthly with your church and to have something to look forward to with your entire family! If you are interested, please contact Kelsey here.

Event Planning Team

We are in need of people to help us with events! Kelsey Hane is currently creating a team that can help coordinate weddings, parties and other events that use our church facilities, in hopes of making this a more event-friendly space. Kitchen Compost Volunteer

The Green Earth Team (GET) is looking for a volunteer that is interested in taking on the composting task in the kitchen at Hosanna. This would involve supervising the intake of raw fruit and vegetable scraps/coffee/tea grounds etc. and following recommended procedure for composting. The compost could be used on church grounds or used personally by volunteer. If you are interested in this worthy task, please contact Kelsey at the front office at [email protected].
