WILDLIFE OF VICTORIA PARK
by John Serrao
Roseate Spoonbill
One of Florida's (and our country's) most spectacular birds doesn't really reside in Victoria Park, but it occasionally stops to feed at our ponds. If you want to get a look at some of these unforgettable birds, just drive an hour to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (near Titusville) or Orlando Wetlands (near Christmas). I was there last week and took the photo below of the beautiful Roseate Spoonbill.

"MISTLETOE, HOLLY AND BERRIES"
Saturday, December 16
10:00 a.m.
Meet in front of Clubhouse
The trails are drying out! I could walk all the South Trail past the map display with only some mud on my shoes. In another week and a half we should see lots of improvement. (May even be able to walk the North Trail!)
John will lead a walk to look for our native hollies and other berries, plus the parasitic mistletoe. Join us as the weather becomes cooler and more inviting for outdoor activities.
Happy Trails and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
Margaret Goldschneider

will bring an item (wrapped) that they no longer want. Gifts you hate or cannot use, useless bric a brac, unwanted chotzkies, etc.
A couple of rules:
No clothing unless it still has tags, no shoes of any kind, no undies, and nothing really expensive. We will take turns choosing a gift and you can exchange your gift

As a general reminder and with the holidays here, please take a moment to read this message for your safety.
Remember not to leave personal items in your car, or if you must, put them out of sight. Park in a well lit area that is well traveled. Lock your cars and be mindful of your surroundings when parking and leaving stores. Do not leave your purse accessible in a shopping cart. Avoid putting wallets and cell phones on the counter at the register. Make sure your money, wallet, and receipts are put away before leaving any store OR ATM MACHINES. If you are uncomfortable leaving a store alone, kindly ask an employee to walk with you. Make sure to have your keys ready before exiting stores and not to fumble with bags/packages while walking. Cell phones can be a major distraction especially holding a conversation or texting while shopping and/or walking to and from the car.
Street Safety: Please be mindful of where you are walking and use the sidewalks when available. Keep an eye out for vehicles. When you are crossing the street, make sure to make eye contact with any drivers nearby before doing so.
Wishing everyone a safe holiday season!
