Krista Tippett is a person who listens for a living.  She says, "You know, sometimes we become wise by making discoveries. And sometimes wisdom is a process of relearning things we knew forever and then forgot."  "I like to say that I'm tracing the intersection between big ideas and human experience, between theology and real life."

This week, Mark Caldwell delves into Krista's practice of "Exploring Wisdom."

Midweek Gathering
Wednesday, March 22, 2017
7:00-8:00p.m.

NEW LOCATION!
CoCo and the Director
100 W. Trade Street; in the Marriott

Come on Wednesday night for Bible study and fellowship with your church friends. If you weren't in worship on Sunday, you can read, watch, or listen to Pen's sermon online here

Sermon Series: People of God, What Do You Believe?
Sermon: "I Believe in Jesus Christ"
Scripture: Colossians 1:15-21; Philippians 2:5-11

Questions to consider:
  • The Apostles' Creed says more about Jesus Christ and who he is than either of the other two persons of the Trinity.  It says, "[I believe] in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead."  Which of these claims about Jesus is easy for you to affirm?  Which is difficult?
  • In his sermon Pen contended, "We aren't saved by thinking in right ways about Jesus; we aren't saved by anything that we think or anything that we do or anything that we don't do.  We are saved by Jesus; not by what we think of him.  We are saved through Jesus; not by getting it right in our minds."  How do you respond to that claim?
  • Who in your life has given you a glimpse of what it means to follow Jesus?  What did you learn from those people?

Book/Podcast/Resource Suggestion
Sometimes it's hard to know where to find good resources for your personal devotional time in between Sundays.  On a regular basis, we'll offer a suggestion here, and we'll share a variety of types of resources too.

Henri Nouwen passed away in 1996 but his influence has a spiritual writer continues today.  He was a Catholic priest who taught at several higher education institutions like the University of Notre Dame and Harvard Divinity and also served at L'Arche, which is a community for mentally and physically disabled people in Ontario.

The Henri Nouwen Society sends a daily email with a reflection from one of Nouwen's writings, and his thoughts on Christ and Christ's love for us have been formative for me (Katelyn) in my faith.
