"Catie Cares"
about
Art with a Heart in Healthcare
|
If your child has ever received one of our bright orange Art-to-Go bags, it came to them because of a special girl named Catherine Leslie Carter, or "Catie", for those of us who came to know and love her.
During her countless hospitalizations at Wolfson Children's Hospital, Catie became close friends with staff and volunteers of Art With A Heart in Healthcare.
Our friend, Catie Carter, had one BIG wish..."that every child has the opportunity to create art...especially while in the hospital." Thanks to Catie's inspiration, care and the help of her family, friends, school, church, and community. Catie's dream came true with Catie Care's Art-to-Go bags.
Art-to Bag recepient. Lori Presto with Catie's mom, Kerri Carter with art supplies that fill Catie Cares "Art-to-Go" bags.
We are so very grateful for the generosity of Christ's Church Academy students, staff and families who have collected art supplies for Art With a Heart in Healthcare over the years during their annual Catie Carter Night . Through their support and partnership with the Catie Cares Foundation, we have received over 3,000 Art-to-Go bags!

for their continued support
|
Artist in Resident, Anne DeSancy and Mr Bob Dross work with Patients in Wolfson Children's Hospital and Nemours Children's Speciality Clinic. Anne connects with each patient and their families taking them on a creative journey making unique and imaginative experiences along side the children with a variety of mediums.
Mr Bob brings his wonderful sense of humor to the waiting area keeping the kids and their families entertained. With fun questions and hilarious dialogue he creates custom caricatures that capture the lives of those that he draws.
Thanks to continued funding from Nemours for 2018, Bob and Anne will continue creating smiles for another year.

Wolfon Children's Hospital
Behavioral Health Center
|
Wolfson Children's Hospital provides a comprehensive continuum of mental health services to children and adolescents. We share experiences with the Behavioral Health Center with a weekly storytelling and music visit from Artist in Residence, Ajamu Mutima, thanks to funding from the Woodcock Foundation. We also
provide three group art sessions each week as a result of continued support from the Hall-Halliburton Foundation. These sessions allow the children to express themselves through art in a judgement free zone.
The children's comments speak for themselves:
"Thanks so much for the music today in the art room with Ajamu. Please continue what you are doing it really helped me today"
"Art with a Heart allows creative freedom and the chance to just be without being overly structured or the need for it to be therapy. Honestly it is a reprieve that truly touches the heart. I am truly thankful because it is a time of freedom in the sense that we can peacefully work as we please and how we feel onto paper without it being judge or made into a bigger picture. So, thank you Art with a Heart you provide something that truly impacts this unit."

Come see Jermaine's portrait and the others at the first stop of the tour. Opening January 8th through February at FSCJ, North Campus Gallery, Building C, Room 122. KIDS
Together
Against Cancer
KTAC is a free support program based in Jacksonville that offers support to children and their families during a parents cancer journey.
|
Each month during the school year our sweet and talented artist Laura Meier joins KTAC for Family Night. This program gives families a chance to eat a hassle-free meal, participate in a themed art activity with us and commune with others sharing a similar experience.
In October Laura led the families in a painting project. Each family created their own family pumpkin patch and illustrated how their family patch is nurtured.
KTAC is funded by St. Vincent's Healthcare Foundation, and led by licensed clinical social worker, Kristin Lothman. It is open to the entire Jacksonville cancer community, regardless of where the individual is seeking treatment.

Steve Barr from
Drawn to Help was back at Wolfson's this Fall visiting children and handing out
packets of art supplies along with copies of his 1-2-3
Drawn Cool Cartoon Stuff books.
We love it when Steve visits, he is always such a joy to have on the hospital floor. He bought his pal, Puppet Steve, with him. Artist in Residence, Korey Cunningham became instant friends with Puppet Steve and looks forward to sharing drawing tips with him.
Thanks, Steve we looked forward to seeing you again soon.

Fun and Frolics
in the
Wolfson Childrens Hospital
Media Center
|
We were back in the Wolfson Children's Hospital Media Center broadcasting on the Getwell network twice over the last quarter. Children and families joined Mr Bob Drost for a cartooning session that was out of this world. An eager viewer who was unable to leave his room was able to watch as Mr Bob drew a request on air for him.
Art with a Heart in Healthcare Artists Brooke Mc Kinney and Jill Olmo teamed up for a Halloween themed paint along class. Brook and Jill were joined by a handful of kids in the media center that painted along with the step by step instructions.
