From Dr. Powers

Dear Jones Family,
This was a special week for all of us as we welcomed the Class of 2021 Jones Eagles to our community. Our rising freshman class members and their parents toured the school, mingled with students, parents, and staff, enjoyed some refreshments, and shopped for their first Joneswear! Everyone then moved to the Robin Bennett Theater to to be formally welcomed to JCP and learn about next steps. It is exciting for all of us to see how happy our new Eagles are to be joining the Jones family.
None of this could be done without the help of Friends of Jones. FOJ makes possible so many of our special programs that welcome our new students, including Freshman Connection in July.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at
[email protected]
or 773-534-8606 (direct office line). F
ollow me on Twitter @PJOSEPHPOWERS.
Many thanks for everything you do for our school.
Best Wishes,
P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

Welcome Class of 2021
|
Dear Parents of the Jones Class of 2021,
Welcome to Jones!
At the two Freshman Welcome Nights held earlier this week, many of you learned about Freshman Connection, the two-week orientation program for incoming freshmen. That program will take place during the weekday mornings, 8am to noon, from July 10 through July 21, at Jones College Prep.
Freshman Connection is your student's introduction to the culture of inclusion, curiosity and academic excellence that characterizes Jones College Prep. In addition to getting a vital orientation to the campus, freshmen routinely make friends during the program that they keep throughout high school.
Registration for Freshman Connection is now open at the Jones College Prep website. Please click HERE for a direct link.
Because Chicago Public Schools no longer funds Freshman Connection, Friends of Jones raises money annually to run the program. But we need your help. The cost of the program is estimated at $250 per student, and we urge families to contribute to cover the costs of their student's attendance.
Thank you, and welcome to Jones College Prep!

FAME - The Musical
The Department of Theatre is proud to present the JCP All-School musical, Fame! Featuring the largest cast of singers, dancers, actors and musicians ever seen on the Jones stage, the musical chronicles the lives of several teenagers as they struggle through four years at The High School of the Performing Arts. Fame is based on the 1980 blockbuster film, which won the Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Song ("Fame"), and the Grammy Award for Best Original album! Many of the films' songs topped the Billboard charts.
Fame will run Thursday thru Saturday, March 23-25 at 7 PM nightly, with an added Saturday matinee at 2 PM. There are only 4 performances, so don't miss this powerful story of laughter, love, triumph and defeat, told with incredible dancing to a hit-score! Tickets are $8 in advance, available from cast and crew members during lunch periods, and before and after school. Tickets are also available at the door for $10.
WARNING: FAME is Rated PG-13 because of its mature language and content. It is not recommended for young children or sensitive viewers.

Annual Fund

Thank you, Jones Community, for your generosity. . . $60K to go!
We're getting close to our $200,000 goal for the school year.
If you haven't already, please consider a gift of any size to
The Annual Fund. The funds are used to bridge the gap between what CPS gives to run the school, and what it really takes. This year has been especially challenging.

MakerSpace and 3D Printer in the Library
Physics/Computer Science teacher Ms. Lilagan and School Librarian Fran Feeley are participating in a training program called MakeCS, an initiative to promote and support MakerSpaces, computer science, and design thinking in high schools. At the second training session earlier this month they were provided a 3D Printer!
The 3D printer will be a shared resource in the library available to teachers and students. It will be used to support the curriculum and will also be a centerpiece of the upcoming MakerSpace in the library. Wondering what a MakerSpace is? Click
here to find out.
As the MakerSpace takes shape we are reaching out to folks with experience with MakerSpaces and
3D printing software tools
.
If you are interested to contributing to this effort please contact School Librarian
Mr. Feeley.
