LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear OSNA Colleagues:

What a great conference we had last weekend.
It takes a lot of people to pull off an event like ours. I want to take a moment and thank a few.

The Salem Conference Center has been our hosts for a number of years. They are so professional and accommodating. They handle every detail with such grace. The food is delicious, the space is classy and the help is friendly. You can't ask for much more. Thank you.
I really want to thank our special speakers Frank Kitchen and Matt Upton. They stepped up and filled in when we had an unexpected cancellation. Each of them took on an unscheduled breakout session to help us keep the conference moving smoothly. You two are awesome! Thank you.

Our vendors put on a great show for us again. Without you there wouldn't be a conference. Your support of our organization is so appreciated. Thank you.

To all our speakers, specialists, partners and friends who presented for us, you were great. I know how hard it is to get up in front of a crowd and talk. You put yourselves out there for us and shared some great information. There were many Aha! moments because of you. Thank you.
Our Friday Night Fun wouldn't be nearly as much fun without Suzann Kayser and Lynne Shore. You two did a great job entertaining us. Thank you.

Our OSNA Executive Board put in many hours to make the conference special. Ellen Christensen made our adorable aprons. Kelli Gladheim handled the registrations. Troy Vennewitz took care of the vendor show. Our Area Reps were room hosts and hostesses and Anne Leavens put together the awesome schedule for us. You guys rock! Thank you.

And to our members. I'm thankful you raised $276.20 for Soles for Success and gave over 50 sets of pj's for the Sleep Train pajama drive. I'm so glad you took the time to invest in yourselves and your careers. I'm thankful you take our profession seriously and spent time learning about best practices. Serving our students is a high calling and you're up for the challenge. Thank you.

Garrett Berdan, a chef and culinary nutrition consultant, congratulates school food service professionals on a job well done after splitting into teams to cook 15 different recipes at an Oregon Cooks for Kids regional culinary workshop at Henley High School on March 17. (Photo by Kevin N. Hume)

Chef Garrett Berdan, with the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) Child Nutrition Services, and ODE's Culinary Training Refresher Course was featured March 19 in the Klamath Falls Herald and News. The article, "Nutritious Cooking: Child Nutrition Programs Get Healthy Refresher Course," by Johanna Bernhard, showcases how ODE, in partnership with the Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council, coaches child nutrition program professionals on cooking innovative and healthy meals using nutrient-rich, local foods. Throughout the year, the team hosts a series of free statewide culinary trainings for school nutrition directors and cooks, teaching them how to enhance the nutrition value of their students' meals and to cook from scratch.

Read the full article to learn more about what 20 participants from regional communities, including the Klamath County School District, Klamath KID Center, Oakridge and Central Point, learned from their experience on March 17.
